Stator or Rectifier troubles?

have an f3 with a battery thats bout 9 months old but at the end of the day it starts to run like **** n hardly wants to start. im charging the battery everytime i put it up for the night. it has a **** ton of lights on it but i only ran em for like 4 minutes today. so im guessing either the stator or rectifier is going bad cause it's not keeping up. is there a way to test which one is going bad?

When you say it has a shitload of lights, what is a shitload of lights?

The factory setup, is nearly maxing out the charging system of the bike already.. There isn't much extra power to add anything to the bike..

Also your bike, with the headlights on, doens't really CHARGE at idle.. it usually only charges at 4,000+ rpm..

So if you have a bunch of accessories on, and you leave your bike idling, it will kill the battery.

Also to check your stator, look into a manual to see what resistance it is supposed to show, and check the resistance between the 3 white wires coming off the stator

And check the volltage in AC, between the 3 white wires on the stator..
Disconnect the stator from the VR, and check voltage between all 3 white wires.. You should be getting 30volts+ at 4k rpm
If you aren't getting at least 20-25volts or more, I'd say your stator is shot.. If your getting high voltage from the stator alone, your VR is bad

Chances are your VR is bad, but stators do go bad

oh thoughs probably aren't bad

PROBABLY only pulling 30-60 watts between ALL that, maybe more, maybe less idk

I was thinking, maybe you added more headlights, or wheelie lights or something, which wouldn't be good

Also, NEVER charge your battery at more then 2amps.. And NEVER overcharge it, and if you want your battery and charging system to last the longest, don't ever leave your leds/neons/headlights on with the bike off

I always watch peoeple around here that leave their headlights on while they gas up and ****, with their bikes off..
And they are always having electric problems months later

Re: Stator or Rectifier troubles?

Ok now im confused. i charged the battery today and checked it twice with an ohms meter about a half hour between times and the charge is about the same. then i hooked it up to the bike started it and was running it about 4k rpms and it's showing a charge on the battery. wtf. that battery is still under warrenty so maybe ill go swap it out or something.

How much voltage are you getting?

With the bike RUNNING, at 4,000rpm or higher, you should get 14volts or more.. (even 13.5 would get you by, but indicated a failing charging system)

Also, with your bike OFF, with a full charge on the battery.. How much voltage? Should be around 12.5-12.7ish..
Now turn the headlights on, BUT don't start the bike.. How much voltage? Should still be above 12

If with just the headlights on, and the bike off, your getting under 12, your battery is fucked.

N/A is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Stator or Rectifier troubles?

Also, keep in mind if your fan is wired on ALL the time that takes a toll on the charging system. Fans on these bikes are supposed to kick on at certain temps for a reason. So "if" your fan is wired constant on try either disconnecting your fan or make it stock again. My fan on my F4i and 600RR cause my bike to charge weaker than normal and after about 7-8 months of riding I started to notice my battery wasn't charging as well as it used to.

+1

I use a switch on my fan so I can kick it on above 210 and kick it back off once its below 200

I also hook my bike up to a trickle charger daily
