2001 zx6r problem

hey my 2001 zx6r is actin up.. its not my stunt bike but i have dropped it two three times.. not bad at all but today i go to bring it out and ride ( third day of riding up north) and i ride for about 10 minutes and i lose power and the thing shuts off. i managed to start it up and ride home all the way in first gear with the idle all the way up and having it really really loud.. i couldnt shift or try to roll on the throttle or it would die, after i got back in, i tried to start it up no luck, 20 minutes later i started it up but the bike doesnt idle well and once i go to put it in gear it dies on me bikes got 3500 miles on it i cant figure it out...

Thanks in advance

James

I had a similar situation with my bike & it sounds to me like your battery may be fried. Batteries can hit a point were they no longer hold a charge & when they do it is not uncommon to experience the symptoms you are having.

First thing I would do is rule out the battery. Take it to your local bike shop and have them do a “load” test. This will tell you if your battery or alternator is the culprit.

Hope this helps!

Check your fuel cut valves on the carbs and the IC Igniter. It can cut the fuel to the bowl. If that is ok, check the fuel pump opperation......

I have the same bike, and while rebuilding it after I looped out this problem occured. Your situation is probably not a complicated as this, but it was a combination of three things for me.

When I crashed the stator(left side) was shattered and damage was done to the stator. However, I ran it anyway and the bike was not producing enough charge due to the damaged stator. I changed the stator, but the damaged stator caused the battery to kill over. So the battery was replaced as well.

After all of that was done, the charging system was fine. However the same variety of misbehaving occured later and I was pissed because I thought I fixed everything. Turns out the ram air duct connecting to the air box was disconnected and there was a fuel/air mixture problem.

A little duct tape fixed that. Hope my experience helps.
