keep in mind that it is a vtwin though and really shouldnt be compared to an inline 4 as far as horsepower goes, thats like comparing apples to papayas or oranges or whatever the hell; anyway 114 for a 1000 cc 4 would be really bad, but twins make up for it in torque. thats why you got harley's that could almost tow a car but these bikes are only making like 50 or 60 horsepower.

BTW, according to sportrider, the TL1000 tops out at 163.

163 for 1000cc seems pretty slow to me

i didn't look at the gixxer 1k, but the R1 said 184 and the ZX-10R was 186.

these numbers were taking by the folks at www.sportrider.com with a radar gun.

No it's not, that's as much as a CBR900RR of the same year, with more torque, remember this bike is 1997 technology. You're also not taking into account that V-twins naturally have less of a top end, and the bike was built as more of a street fighter than a race bike, so they sacrificed some top end for better midrange.
