15 years old, thinking about getting a streetbike
Hey guys, im 15 years old.. I'm going to be looking for cheap transportation and fun in a few months down the road... I would like to get a crotch rocket..but something that wont crap out on me in a year or two.. probably 02 or newer... I have alot of MX experience but I know that has no effect on the road..[Although i do wheelies on my 2004 Honda CR250 in 5th gear up all the roads where I live
]
I was wondering, If I could start out with a 600cc bike? Like I said I wanted it to last... I dont want to be looking for more in a year or so... I would deffinately be paying for some riding schools so I dont get myself killed... Another plus is I live 30 min away from the nearest CITY... ALOT of open roads here... not much traffic..although there is some after work. I'm not scared of bikes but I also know my limits... so if you think a 600cc bike would be bad for the reason being Id peg it 100mph down the highways, your wrong... But if there are other reasons why I shouldnt get a 600cc bike to begin with, please let me know... and what I should do..
Hope I didnt come off ****y,
Zak

Re: 15 years old, thinking about getting a streetbike
A 600 would be fine, be carful of course, and just an FYI its sport bike, no one I know that rides one calls it a croch rocket, thats a cager (car driver) term..
Re: 15 years old, thinking about getting a streetbike
Yeah, Kawi's got a great model for ya, it's a replica racer style
Ok, on a serious note, looks liek you got the right idea, just take it easy. Country roads are just as dangerous, mainly due to animals, and the fact people really aren't looking for bikes out there. Trust me, that's one of the most dangerous factors to a rider. Good luck

Re: 15 years old, thinking about getting a streetbike
lmao... where can I get one of those...
We have 4 lane country highways
and also alot of roads...I hate the country roads... i ride on my 250 around them every once in awhile I see some wabbits and dowgs run out infront of meh...not cool when your going 30mph... deffinately wouldnt be fun doing 50!
Thanks for the advice guys! Anyone know of some good riding schools in texas? I'm going to start doing my homework... I need a permit still lol..One good thing is, I have a 2003 Ford F150 4 door to drive.... My aunt got a huge raise and bought a Tahoe... and is giving me her truck.. So I dont need to worry about being able to carry things...
Is it harder or eaiser to do standups on sport bikes? I've sat on a few in the dealership and they seem so huge LOL... Will take some getting used to. I know once you get it up on a CRF250R, it just keeps going and going... I bet its the same with 600s?
Here is a pic of my other bike...bought it so my dad would have something to ride at the track...well... I didnt buy this one heh!!!! But i found it in perfect cond. for $4700 with $2000 in engine work, parts, and accesories! $800 carbon can on it!
check it out!

Also, thanks guys for not hassiling me... to sum it up, in another fourm I was told i would get killed on a bike... something about me being 15 and going nutz....

Re: 15 years old, thinking about getting a streetbike
I'd be super suprised if you pegged it down the highway at 100mph, hell that's barely out of first gear on a liter bike lol. Pegged on a 600 is around 160 bouncing off the limiter in 6th gear.
Re: 15 years old, thinking about getting a streetbike
Get yourself a beat up 600 and beat the *** out of it. I hate to see people new to the street get a bike and cry when they drop it. You sound like you can handle it though tear it up dude!!
Re: 15 years old, thinking about getting a streetbike
Woww... 100mph in 1st gear?
Guess I wont need to worry about shifting gears for awhile...
Can you do standups on them with stock gearing? I read these fourms alot and hear about ppl changing their rear to be able to wheelie... is that just slow wheelies?

By the way, I started on a early 90's ZX-6, BAD MOVE. I am on a 2001 929 now, and I love it. Some kids on here started with litre bikes... Whatever you get (1999 and up) just respect it's power, and don't go trying to show off if you aren't ready.
Good luck man! :YEAH
Re: 15 years old, thinking about getting a streetbike
Did you mention your hieght? I got my first bike as soon as i could legally ride it, and it was only a 500. big mistake, i'm 6'1" and the damn thing was tiny. within a few months i got a 750 and i'm on a 929 now. So depending on your size, you might want to consider other options. You have a good deal of riding experience and as long as you dont to too stupid sh*t on your bike you'll be fine.
Don't get me wrong, 600's have more than enough power, i just feel cramped on then. You might want to try a few different bikes out before you choose. Ride safe!

Re: 15 years old, thinking about getting a streetbike
hey man, u sound real fvckin cool and like u'll be fine on a bike, and thank god finally a kids first bike and he doesn't claim he needs a liter bike, a 600 will treat u just fine, and your dbike skills will deff help u on the street. you'll be tossin that bike around like nothin.. and yeah i suggest gettin somethin that's been low sided, who gives a **** if your plastics are scratched, i never look twice at a stock pretty bike, get somethin with character and handle it, let us know how it goes peace!
Re: 15 years old, thinking about getting a streetbike
as long as **** isnt cracked like 5inches up itll work... scratches happen...wtf didnt I say i ride mx? ive droped my bike in the dirt more times then ive kept it up!
