186mph?????? speedo problems

OK, I'm riding to work the other day via interstate 85, I look around and there's no cars around so I decide to finally see what the gixxer has. I come up on a straight away, drop back to 2nd gear and lay down on the throttle. I gat to redline in 2nd,3rd and 4th. When i shift to 5th I glange at my speedo and it reads 186mph(my bike has been re-geared -1/+4, so i'm only running about 140)well when i go to 5th it wont do sh*t, it stays at 186mph. rps's were at 9500, it wouldnt go any higher. so my question is, does my bike have a speed limiter? if im only running 140 but the speedo reads 186 does the computer think im really running 186 and kills my top-end? If so, can it be fixxed? any advice would be helpfull here. OH-yea, im ridin' a 02' gixxer 750

i got mine at radio shack for 1.29 you just got to know what resistor to buy witch i dont remember and you got to cut a couple wires to your ecm and solder the resistor inbetween them, if you want to do the research and find out what resistor you need ill pull my seat off and snap a picture for you so you dont cut the wrong wires..... but it does make a difference not just top speed but also throttle control and power

Re: 186mph?????? speedo problems

i bought the glorified version of that-the g-pak, what it does is eliminate the timing retard gixxers have in top gear-i hear the switched tres work well-theres an article floating around somewhere on them-also noticed my bike seems to free rev a lot higher as well-Mike

i've never saw a little flapper
I dont guess I have one, when i changed the exaust I didnt see any wires.
but the bike I wrecked in april, it was a 02'750. after i wrecked it it you could turn the switch on and the fuel system would make that buzzing noise, but it wouldnt turn over or do anything so i got pissed off and kicked it over, well when the insurance adjuster finally came to appraise it and look at the damage.(three months after i wrecked) he told me to try and start it,so i did and the damn thing started right up, I guess something came loose when i wrecked, or the tip-over sensor got stuck it pissed me off though what ever it was, I was going to trash it before they came to estimate the damage

Re: 186mph?????? speedo problems

2001+ GSXR speedos cut out at 186 because of a gentlemans agreement between the major bike manufacturers. The speedo will NOT display higher than 186 but this has no effect on the bike. It will keep climbing even though the speedo stops. The TRE has absolutely NO effect on any of this. The TRE mod is simply a mod that removes a restriction on the lower 2 gears below 5K rpms. They did this because they felt the bike wasnt tame enough for putting around town in the lower gears at low rpms.

NOW.. with that said... the 2003+ 1000s and the 04+ 600 and 750s are actually limited to 186 mph by the transmission. so chew on that. Anyone says they are going faster are liars. And anyone saying they have seen above 186 mph on an 01-03 gsxr is a liar too.

Re: 186mph?????? speedo problems

I Had The Tre Mod On My Gsxr 1000.

It Fools The Bike Into Thinking Its In 5 Th Gear.
The Bike In 6th Gear At 186 On The Speedo
The Gsxrs Shut Down The 3rd Cylinder Fuel Injector. Wich Inturn Will Not Let You Go Any Faster.

Ive Had My Bike Pinned At 186 Forever And All It Did Was Hit 186 And Slow Down ...then 186 And Slow Down...
With The Tre Mod I Never Had The ***** To Keep Going .

Either Way.

Your Speedo Will Never Read Past 186 Unless Its In Kilometers.

The Speed Doesnt Impress Me Any More.

I Was Kool When I First Started Riding But Now The Only Time I Go Real Fast Is When The Red And Blue Lights Come On.

Re: 186mph?????? speedo problems

no.. maybe thats when they entered that agreement.. I dont know. The 00 had a bad tranny though. the 00 and the 01 750 had a stupid STVA design.
