Rebuilding steering dampers
I picked up a toby steering damper online cheap but it needed to be rebuilt, when I got it it was leaking hydraulic fluid. I bought the kit, but it came with no directions. I took the damper apart and put it back together the same way using the new seals. Now I have to add hydraulic fluid and I'm not sure how much. I assume you fill through the little screw on top, but are there any tricks or tips I need to know about for filling. Also how much do you add, should I top it off??A little help please...Thanks
Re: Rebuilding steering dampers
did mine over a year ago, but i think we used a syringe (sp? haha) to inject the oil into it and we topped it off, put as much fluid in it as we could! keep moving the inner rod back and forth to try to get air pockets out... just play with it and you'll get it. took us a while
if someone knows a better way please post up! lol

Re: Rebuilding steering dampers
on the shaft that runs thru the damper there is a cylindar with a sealing ring around it,(looks like what controls the dampening) my ring is split in one spot making it removable, is this normal or should the ring be solid
Re: Rebuilding steering dampers
Im thinkin that if its a seal or what controls the damping, then it shouldn't have a split in it, but i don't know. You mean that the NEW seal the you purchased (rebuild kit) has a split in it??!?! if that's the case then i guess that is normal... try posting a question in the help and how to section (right below stunt discussion on the main board), im sure there are some guys that know dampers better than us in there!!!
