Troubleshooting?

on my 750 my fan switch does not work. i connected just the fan to the battery to make sure the fan worked and thats a go. so i hard wired a switch to the positive side of the battery and grounded it to a bolt on the bike.i only used 16 guage wire. every time i started the bike and turned the fan on it worked, soon as i turned the fan off it cuts the bike rite off,and the wires were getting fried untill i diconnected them.
ANY IDEAS

Re: Troubleshooting?

The fan on your bike has power going to it all the time. There is a thermo sensor on the left side on the front of the radiator. When the coolant gets up to 217 degrees, the switch completes the ground circuit. All you have to do is use the switch to jump the thermo sensor and complete the ground. I assume you're trying to hook your fan up on a toggle switch. Connect one side of your switch to one of the wires going into the sensor, and the other side to the remaining wire. When you flip the switch, the ground circuit will be completed, and your fan will come on. You were probably frying wires cause you had a short somewhere. This is the easiest and most trouble free to put your fan on a switch.

A SWITCH GOES IN A POSITIVE POWER LINE(or negative) but not both. the circuit should go like this:
battery to switch----switch to fan. or you can break the ground for the fan and put a switch in that line. but you cant go power to a switch then to ground. thats why your frying wires......
