Marine With New Hampshire Ties Dies In Iraq
Man Joined Marines After Friends Killed In Sept. 11 Attacks

A Marine who attended high school in New Hampshire died last week in the fighting in Fallujah, Iraq.

Lance Cpl. Dimitri Gavriel was killed in an explosion during the fighting in Fallujah Thursday, Nov. 18. He was 29 years old.

Gavriel attended Timberlane High School in Plaistow, N.H., in the early 1990s and was on the wrestling team. He was a graduate of Brown University.

The investment banker enlisted in the Marines after two of his friends were killed in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. His family now lives in Haverhill, Mass.

Gavriel's mother was quoted in The New York Times as saying the family tried to convince him not to enlist but couldn't convince him otherwise.
