just a thought !
hey guys how about using slackware instead of redhat, for one it will be more stable and more secure and two its uses a better file structure like rieser fs instead of that ext3 fs.and also playing around with your inet1 and inet2 two increase bandwidth two the average users.........just a thought........whats is the server and the specs on it i might have some left over parts for ya !!
Damn sorry man
Didnt get any response for a while so i donated all my parts to a school ,It wasent much just a bunt of boards and small ten gig Hard drives, ill keep u guys in mine next time,......looks like the server is looking pretty good, are u guys on a T1 or T3 ?
Here is my evaluation of stuntlife.
A) you should be running a control panel like cpanel. It takes care of updating all of your software on the linux side. mysql, php, apache, the kernel EVERYTHING. Plus it also patches your system with all the current security patches. I mean its a pain in the butt to always have to run up2date from ssh or even downloading all the updates for the server. Just get a control panel that does it for you. Cpanel WHM is the bomb for it.
B) you need some MORE RAM and defitenly a few scsi's. Ideally you would want a dual or triple server setup for 5000 - 20000 member vbulletin site. Its really easy to do but costs $$$.
C) the t-1 is SLOW. Why would you run a T-1 that caps you at a max of 1.5 mbps my home dsl line does that.. You understand that the most you can possibly pump out is 11.2 megabytes per minute with that and your monthly max bandwidth is capped at 486 gigabytes and you will NEVER see these speeds cause ISP's never allow to fully max out (burst) your connection. A site that sees the traffic that stuntlife does needs to be in a top notch data center supported by the big bandwidth providers like Verio, Time Warner, ect... You can get a server that is alot faster than your current setup and get a 1000gigabytes a month of transfer for $256 a month. For a site like this and the amount of traffic it does and the corporate sponsorships that could come along it, could be done.
D) You need a Linux Network Administrator to take care of your daily functions. Hell I own serveral servers and mine don't see a tenth of the traffic that stuntlife does but I am always in there tweaking things and optimizing the OS.
I have consulted with several websites that run huge vbulletin forums that have 30,000+ members and have at a minimum of 400 people online at a time. All stuntlife needs right now to get back to being super fast, like click of the mouse fast is this:
For $256 a month you get:
1 Dedicated server w/
Dual Xeon 2.0 Ghz Processors
1 (preferably 2) gig of ram
Dual 75gig 10k RPM SCSI drives
Redhat 7.3 with everything u need installed
cpanel6 WHM
and a 1000 gigs of traffic a month.
1 Linux Network Admin. Hell with cpanel you really don't need the admin till you get to 10,000+ members and have to start really tweaking things and monitoring bandwidth.
A couple of clicks and a credit card and your server could be online in an hour hehehe LOL. NO I DONT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY OR AM A RESELLER FOR THEM. There just the best dedicated server company out there.
Shugga has such a great company with stuntlife and its just real frustrating to see it run so slow most of the time. But there are times when it runs pretty good.
I know you all have been having the problems with mysql and php not being friendly with one another and that could be alot of the problem but i know for a fact that the T-1 is a major factor too and the server is as well.
Just thought I would give you my opinion.
I have told shuggs a million times that I would offer my admin services for free if he ever decided to upgrade his server. I just love stuntlife
Keep on rocking shuggs.......

Redhat maybe a little bit slower but the tools it offers you for running a dedicated web server far out weigh slackware.
The real mack daddy is Suse Linux because they are the only one that supports Intels new 64Bit Itanium processors. Redhat have a beta version there testing but its not gonna be ready for a few more months.
either way linux =
