pro's and con's

I'm looking into getting a dirt bike either a yz 250 or a crf 450. What would be the pro's and con's of both the bikes.

Re: pro's and con's

i wouldrespectfully disagree. i am a 2 stroke fan my self. i have a 01 cr250 and i love it. i would suggest getting a honda rather than a yz. my riding friend has a 03 yz 250 and has had nothing but trouble with it. 3 top ends 3 clutches and all sorts of other ****. but thats just my opinion.

I am also a big fan of 2 strokes. I've ridden my friends dirt bikes and they all have 2 strokes. i would like to get into the fmx scene or just mx. I will for sure look into a honda though.

right on. if your going to try and get into fmx i would find some one that already does that and follow them. and prepare yourself for some seriously brutal wrecks.

Re: pro's and con's

alot of peeps go with the 4 strokes, iv ridin' both, the 2 stroke def has the advantage for fmx, honda seems to be the best all around bike. racing wise, the 4 stroke is alot easyer to ride and seems to be the way to go, but i dont like them cause they are too loud

I have a Honda trx 450r atv. I love it. If the crf 450f is anything like it, you should get it. Whatever you get make you get make sure you get the Honda.

Re: pro's and con's

good choice, if your going to FMX it, I'd go 2 stroke just for the fact that when you crash..and I'm sure you will....the 2 stroke motor's cheaper to fix, if you mess something up.

Re: pro's and con's

I had my first wreck on wednesday and let me tell you, the wrecks from stunting do not hurt nearly as much as these. I jumped about a 25 foot table top went off the trail hit a bump with my front wheel and took an uppercut to the neck and jaw from my bars. what sucks is that helmets dont help for $h!t on these kind of falls. but i will go back and conquer that jump, i kind of figured i was going to wreck soon cause ive only been riding dirt for bout 2 weeks. but hey couple more battle scars wont hurt! :YEAH

Re: pro's and con's

you can't beat a honda engine, four stroke is WAY less up keep then a two stroke and those 450 engines have a ton of power, you can't go wrong.

Re: pro's and con's

You are totally wrong. 4 strokes are much more maintinance. Valves ever 25 hours. Hondas need to be check often (YZF can go 35-40 on a 450) becuase the YZF had problems with valves breakign off so honda made theres soft. And you need to change 2 sepearte oil conatainers every tiem you ride. After 5 hours the oil is just black. Then every 100 hours you need a new top end, every other top end needing a new head beause every time the vavle seats need to be recut, and that can only be done once on a head. Tops ends are around 700$ on a four stroke, compared to 90$ for one on my 2 stroke.
