question about freestyle ramps
hey i was on freestyle evolution ramps website an saw the fiddy jump ramp i am interested in it because im a biginer at freestyle ramps its not to big will it handle me at 150 lbs and my 03 kx125 ?
Re: question about freestyle ramps
what you need is the fifty ramp im making for a kid in NY ... ill post pics tomorrow
its 5 ft tall witha 45 degree final angle and
i was having a convo with a friend tonight... i was saying, make it a foot taller and a few feet longer and a smidge tamer of an angle and it woudl be the perfect "screw around" ramp for a big bike, something that def could get ya air.. its cheap, light, and you dont have to worry about killing yourself
like i said ill post a pic tomorrow.
but you cant hit a 6 ft tall 60degree angle ramp designed for the wheelbase of a 50 with a big bike.. theres a whole list of things that can go wrong with that.

Re: question about freestyle ramps
Jason1, that ramp looks sick! good job
I noted that you welded that with a MIG welder, but how did you bent the metal? I was thinking about making something similar but I only have an ARC welder. Did you have you have it bent in like a pipe bender or do you have the height of the support tubes set up so that each individual piece is set up to look like an angle. I hope you can understand what I tried to explain

Re: question about freestyle ramps
i appreciate it.
i notch the tube and bend it according to the customers needs. i just take what they are jumping, how high and far they wanna go, what they want to do with it and i calculate something up and i spit it out.... and stuff like that is what i get. basically each ramp is personalized, ive never built the same ramp twice.
you can use a stick welder but they are a pain in the *** big time. but if you do get a 3/32 7018 rod... thats your best bet

Re: question about freestyle ramps
Thanks, I know they're a pain but I don't have the money to buy a MIG and my dad wouldn't buy us one because he only welds things every once in awhile. They hurt too, yesterday I accidently stabbed myself right after I put a new rod on because I was feeling around trying to start an arc and I got myself good right above the thumb, gave me a good jolt
Re: question about freestyle ramps
another quick question..
I just got a MIG welder yesterday and it's cool, but my cousin had an assortment of wire in there, one which included a non-gas wire. Since the tank I have is in need of a refill or exchange I've been using the non-gas wire. I noticed that theres alot of slag and the weld is shitty compared to the gas weld, but I'm assuming its stronger since the bead is consistent as to the non-gas weld which is well..not that good.

Re: question about freestyle ramps
thats called flux core wire.... its a pain in the *** i dont see a real advantage to it. you dont have to buy gas but the wire is three times as much..... at least so you dont save anything plus its smokes like a chimney and you have to chip the welds
get the gas.
get the gas.
Re: question about freestyle ramps
Hey Jason I do metal fab work for a livin and i know how to buil a ramp like the one in the picture i was just wondering what size rame as in how tall long and what kind of upward slope i should use for a beginner that wants to learn how to do fmx stunts and i ride a cr 125 i already built one for my fiddy but by the time i am in the middle of trying to do a stunt im running out of air so im ready to step it up to my cr so man if you dont mind what dimensions would you suggest im also gonna build a dirt landing ramp how tall should i build it and how far from the ramp i live in the country on 90 acres so i have plenty of room man i would greatly apreciate your help
Re: question about freestyle ramps
u want a regular size ramp because you can move into the landing and jump a 15 ft gap, then push it back later, i jump full size fmx ramps on my xr50 all the time
