Alright so heres the question i am posing to you. I have been looking very seriously in to the sport of Supermotard. And i plan on building one up. Now for the problem i face. I own a 01 yz426f and have been riding it in the dirt for about a year and i would like to build up my supermotard to have some thing with about the same power charateristics.

So im pritty much looking for a 4 stroke bike that is atleast a 400cc. Since i personaly have almost no riding time on any dirt bike of this size other then my YZ id like your thoughts on what would be a good bike. Basicly once i get what bike i have decided on im going to lower it a bit, put on some 17 rims and slick tires. 4 piston brakes on a front 320mm disk. Then if the size isent putting out the amount of power i want im going to overbore engine, add a K&N, Rejet and find a nice pipe for it.

Im planning on taking this bike on the road so its going to have to suport lighting. But it is posable to put light coils on a motorcross bike so i dont want to rule them out.

The best thing i can come up with right now is a KTM Sx400 that a bike shop i know wants to sell to me for 2k (canadian) its an 02' but it droped a valuve and the pistol, rod, and valuves have to be replaced. i was thinking since it needs that i might as well rebore it to a 450.

Well since you guys know my basic idea what do you all think???

 

I was thinking of converting my 520sx for super-moto racing, or maybe even for an on/off bike. But i think its going to cost to much, so its for sale right now. I can send you a pic if your interested. It was fully maintained by the KTM dealer here due to that i'm sponsered by them. There also alot of work done to the thing as well.

i (being partial to honda) heard that the honda 450 is the shizz for super motard

Metz started recently and he said that he did very minimal work to his 450 to get it ready for supermotard just my .02

 

YEa vegas i was thinkin y not ur 426, but if u wnat real power, atk 700 2 stroke. Then ull take those 450s in the straights. And It Would have lots of bottem end (from being such a big bore).

Acctually ktms are shitty. Thats way mcgrath went to a honda. Only reason all those people are on ktms is cause ktm sponsors so many people.

 

Have you ever rode a KTM? Did you ever think that Honda offered MC more money?

 

keep your 426 and put a 03-04 exhaust cam on it..problems solved.

Ya..KTM has the most power in the 125s, 250s, and 450s than all the other bikes..come with excel rims, hydrulic clutch, a actually decent chain and sprocket, TAG bars i beleive, the 04s come with a V-force reed cage and reeds, Awesome stock pipe and silencer, powdercoated frame......but they are a pile of chit....people crack me up

 

Stefen Everts (sp?) Had a bd season and was blaming the KTM250sx. He ride hondas now and he flys.

 

They Have the power but other wise aint the best. But i guess it doesnt matter if ur a factory racer. Look at RC he is on the worst 250 but he is the best rider. Shows what the company that has the highest sales can do to a bike

 

There are the best equped bikes from the factory. Period...all the extras will add up to about a grand just bythemselves. Revalve the supsension(gotta do it with all anyways) and your set.
