Question Dual Sport laws NY? Are 2-strokes legal?

Hey,

I know this isn't really FMX related, and it's more Enduro, but this is the only off-road bike forum on here.

I thought that one of you might know the laws about converting a 2-stroke woods bike into a Dual Sport. I have an '06 Kawasaki KDX200, and I found a Dual Sport kit for it, but I'm not sure if 2-strokes are street legal.

If I can't street legalize it, I'll get an ATV plate. Does anyone know the restrictions on ATV's in NY.

Thanks,

Dirt Rider

Converting your KDX is doable... but a pain. I've heard of guys "selling" their off-road title to a company in TX, who turned it around and re-sold them back the title as a street legal document. You'd have to do some research because I don't know the name of the title company or the correct procedure.

Option two is registering your bike in a state that allows dual sports and then re-register it in NY. I know my friend did it with his XR600(4stroke)... registered it in VT... then transfered the title to NY.

Sorry... that's all I know.

Like Drew said, it has to come into NY with a street title, YOU (an ny resident) cant do it here. I think PA is the closest state that'll do it.

NY currently doesnt check emissions for motorcycle inspections. Yet
