wait till you have to do top end motor work, that frame will be your worse enemy. The honda oil seals are known for leaking inside the side cover, the only way to tell is by checking periodically.

Re: got a 450

Wiat till you ride it for a month, itll be your worst enemy. 450s aren't made to be reved so the valves can go around 30 hours befor they need to be shimmed. Keep doing that and every year new pistion and valves and every 2 a new head (ever other topend you need a new head becuase the valve seats need to be recut every topend and that can only be done once).

Re: got a 450

Yea, you gotta lug em around. Just wait till the valve smacks the piston, folds over (Honda uses soft valves), rips up the head and tears the lobes off te cam shaft, piston comes up again and hits the valve, stick of the head and breaks off the con rod which goes through the cases and on its way down messes up the cylinder, good times.

Re: got a 450

Yea X, in all seriousness, the 450's arent to bad maintenance wise. Still need it, but not nearly as much as the 250f's. How many people really romp a 450 to its fullest, where it would break? The only reason they need more maintenance then say a xr400 is because it rev's a lot higher and harder. For the most part, ride it like a 400, and it should last like a 400, respectivley.

Re: got a 450

I've had mine over a year now, change the oil probably not as much as I should, even ran it real low a few times, rev limiter coasters-burnouts all day, rippin it at the local mx track, never a problem with the valves or anything motor wise at all. A friend of mine is a pro level MX guy, he had a 03 450 for 1 1/2 seasons of weekly track riding, changed the oil regularly, never changed the piston or even adjusted the valves and the bike ran perfect when he sold it and bought a O5. The 450 on my kart runs mint too and it's full throttle from the time I get in it till the tires pop.
