Re: painting a quad

yes it will got to the body supply shop and tell them you painting bumper skins and get everything ... make sure it is clean and prepped well...

SAnd with 320 to knock it down spary with self etching primer and take it from there... it will stick if you rash it up it will scrape like everything..

3 or 4 coats for base and 6 coats of clear .. depending on how you want it...

I do custom work for a living.. and the serval shops i do it for never had a customer ***** about it nor did any of mine complain...

You need to know how to mix it ect.... let me know....

Napa has everything ... use all 1 product to do it...

if you're picky don't waste your time.....whatever kind of paint you choose, however you prep it, whatever tricks you have up your sleeve, it will always peel/fall off because dirtbike/ quad plastics aren't very rigid at all and they vibrate/flop around way too much for paint to stick to.

It sounds like a fun project but I guarantee it will look like hell after you ride it around the block a few times! There's a reason dirtbike/quad body parts are manufactured in the final body color and not painted from the factory!

Re: painting a quad

You will seriously regret painting your plastic. It looks like azz in 10 seconds of riding. I've done it.
Either buy new plastics or put some vinyl graphics on the yellow.

No! quad plastic is usually made of polypropylene-bumpercovers abs. Quad plastics are MEANT to be used as is and bumper covers have a primer coating and are MEANT to be refinished. Do you get where I'm going here?

Not trying to be a *** here but I'd hate for this guy to spend a few hundred bux on paint supplies just to end up with a funny looking quad. I've made a living doing production paint work for the last 7 years-I've learned a lot of lessons the hard way, had to do some jobs twice......just trying to save this guy some grief......

7 Years.. My family has owned a body shop since the late 50's i owned my place since i was 17 and i am 34 now ...

Now you don't know much about automotive products...

"No! quad plastic is usually made of polypropylene-bumpercovers abs."
Abs is not anything close to the bumper cover.. Abs is not flexible

If it was my personal quad i would just change the plastic

Then why would you waste your time telling this guy how to paint his quad?

If you think I know nothing check out the ISO code next time you get a bumper cover in your shop or better still google "abs bumper cover". Why can't you post up your pics with your company's name and url? It might bring a few more customers through the door???

Give it a bolder look
i don't know if you offroad it like i do ..

But you can fit an f4 fairing and nose on there with a little work and ect...

I like to see how every one knows about bumpers to .... aftermarket rice kitsa are not abs fiberglass or urathane stock bumper covers are urathane...
