Stoppies on a ATV

I have a quick question to start this off. How are you guys doing stoppies? Should I go and put Galfer brake lines in for more pressure or should I be able to do them stock. I have tried but it seems like I dont get enough to get the back end up. They seem loose. I even try to lock them and do burnouts and that doesnt work either. What do you think?

New pads can help a lot, but normally even with old junk pads you can still get the rear end up.

Aftermarket lines will make a world of difference though....I wish I had them.

Also try bleeding your lines incase you have air in them, which I'm sure you tried.

However, I find that it is mostly technique. It's different for every quad, even if they are the same model, so you just have to practice. The idea is to get a feel for how the front tires are grabbing, and to get as much traction to them as you can. Normally a good technique to begin with is lean forward, going topped out in like 2nd or 3rd....and then pull in the front brakes like you just want to slow down rather quickly (don't lock them up), once you are rolling pretty slow, let off the brakes a little, then grab them again and let up slightly, and then finally grab 'em again (do not ever let them lock up)....remember, you'll be leaning forward the whole time, but on the last grab throw your body weight forward. It's kind of hard to explain in writing, but go out and mess around trying what I just said.

For me that method worked the best when I was first starting out....eventually when you get more practice you don't have to go into 2nd or 3rd gear to do one if you just want to pop it up, but I think when you are first starting out, it gives you a little extra time to get setup when you start in a higher gear.

Anyway, not sure if anything I just said makes any sense, but give it a shot!

Thanks Josh, I am going to try your technique as soon as I can. I will tell you this when you do stand up wheelies and jump up, kick you legs out and then go back to straddling the quad again, I am impressed. You have skill! I will get there its just a matter of time. Also is that your white pickup being burned out in the VID? I have one like that of my boy in his FireBird(AKA..FireChicken).

I also just looked into Galfer lines. I think I might purchase front and rears and give that a try. They claim that their 3x as powerful as stock line braking power.

Re: Stoppies on a ATV

Well just so you fellas know, I decided to not play games with this matter. By next week, my newly ordered Galfer Steel Braided Brake Lines will be at my door. I should be standing stoppies at 12oclock all the time. Just hope I dont pin them and launch myself a couple of feet!
