Re: stupid question
private sale.... shouldn't be a problem until you decide that the bike is not good enough and you take him to small claims to get your money back. Or if your parents kick and scream when you bring it home. Technically minors cannot enter any kind of contract legally, even a car sale. This was an issue when I bought a Supra and the motor blew 2 weeks later. Guy didn't want to abide by the lemon law, so it went to small claims. At small claims the magistrate said to the guy I bought it off of : "I don't need to hear the case, you sold a vehicle to a minor. End of story."

Re: stupid question
Being under 18 sucks a whole bunch. But the law is the law.
If you do find someone that's dumb enough to sell the bike straight to you... great!
Beat the bag out of it, and then give it back the day before your 18th birthday for a full refund!
