Octane?????

I installed my 88cc kit and it obviously has a lot more compression... what octane gas do i have to run in it and will it hurt to run on 87 for this tank?

More compression means you have to run a higher octance fuel. You've been running 87? Even with the 49cc stocker? I always use 93 in mine, Steve even ran nothing but 93 when he had it, run 93 from now on.

Re: Octane?????

Ive heard for the 88 kits your fine with 91-93, but if your running a race head you might want to think about running race gas.

My friend put 110 octane leaded race fuel in his fiddy and man that thing smelled to high heavan. But we sorta did see a little better increase in preformance.

Re: Octane?????

most racing fuels are big time octane like 110 to 117
they are great for high compression motors and 2-cycles

a fiddy is only 10 to 1 and the high octane fuels flash to soon (fire before piston is at top dead center)

check out vp fuels they have a special 4-stroke only racing fuel and it still has the smell.

we get two gallons of 94 and then add 1/2 gallon of cam2 (112 octane) to get the smell

Re: Octane?????

I use TRICK 101 octane gas from a local station. At $3.99/gal, it's not bad since 91 octane here in So Cal is $2.50

I love the smell of race gas! Ahhhhhhh.....

Re: Octane?????

sounds like everyone needs to do a google search on "high octane fuel" and read up. if its a Kitaco oe takegawa kit, u can get away with 87 octane all day long. they are low compression big bore kits. However, the TB kits are almost 14:1 compression. i have one here that pings like crazy on 94 octane. i do a half and halk mix of 92 and 110 with that one.

Re: Octane?????

for all u people that think u get more power from higher octane fuel... read this...

http://greennature.com/article347.html

i found that in a matter of seconds on a simple google search. short and to the point.

In fact, in most cases, using a higher octane gasoline than your owner’s manual recommends offers absolutely no benefit. It won’t make your car perform better, go faster, get better mileage or run cleaner. Your best bet: listen to your owner’s manual.

^^says it all right there

Re: Octane?????

Im not trying to do it for Horsepower!!! I know in a car high compression you have to run higher octane or the motor detonates..... thats what im wondering.. 88cc high compression has to need more octane then stock motor!

Re: Octane?????

i think he is referring to high octane in a Stock motor is pointless.
when i first got my 50 i did searches as well and i've been running 87 since day one.

Re: Octane?????

as i already stated. the only 88cc kit that needs good gas is a TB kit. all the rest are all aroud 10-11:1. u can run 87 octane all day with that. just cuz its an 88cc kit dont mean its "high compression". hell the takegawa kits use a feakin dog bowl for a piston. i would be very suprised if its even close to 11:1.

Yea I run pure C14 110 octane race fuel in my bike. Runs like a champ and The stuff burns alot slower than regular fuel.

I thought that higher octane gas was suppose to hold up better, meaning that it wouldn't prematurely ignite (which causes engine ping) like lower octane gases.

Re: Octane?????

Yea, but if you dont have enough compression to make your 87 octane detonate theres no point. Most peple think that if they run 110 octane they will make more power, but you will actually loose power if your motor doesnt need it. And Fab5, richen the jetting on that motor that pings with 94.
