Arrow Laws....

ok, so i got stopped this morning riding around campus by a police officer that said i couldn't ride the xr on the street because it was not tagable...now a parking person told me not to ride it on the sidewalk because it had a motor.....sooo
i called the city of norman and they said that there is much controversy surrounding the scooters and that they were going to have a city council meeting in about two months but for now they are to be treated as bicycles...
...........
so has anyone ever actually had a police officer w.o. you telling him, differentiate the xr from a little scooter???

Re: Laws....

Every City/Town is different...some of the cities in the DFW area allow you to ride on the sidewalk and a few more allow you to ride on streets where the speed limit is 25 mph or less...you have to read the fine lines b/c you may have to have a tail light/head light for this to be legal...I have been stopped twice in Lewisville and both times the officer told us it was legal to ride on the sidewalks...you might wanna go get a copy of the penal code that says scooters are being treated as bikes just to cover your butt...

Re: Laws....

yeah the laws differ from city to city...I just had my 50 impounded like 5 days ago because I did not have my registration with me so, they said that I was driving an unregistered vehicle! they didn't write me up for anything else because I told them that it was consodered a scooter since its 49cc. If you don't tell them that they can cite you for inproper use of OHV. It all depends on how cool the cop is.

Re: Laws....

Cops are "smart" enough around here to "know" that fiddys are dirtbikes. You can't convince 'em otherwise even with street tires on 'em etc. Cops around here just tell me not to make too much noise. They won't bother me unless they get a complaint.

Re: Laws....

ok i just got off the phone with a houston police officer and he said that anything under 50cc is considered a bicycle and has to follow all the laws of a bicycle. that is on the street with the flow of traffic and a helment.
man if this is the case im going to be tearing it up ... and i asked him about our registration ticket and he just said show up with the title or proof of ownership ....
now i just have to find out WHERE it is stated or get an officer to write it and sign it so when i get pulled over i can bust out the paper like get some BIIIIIIIIIIATCH and wheelie off .. cause bicycles can operate on 1 wheel but no motorcycles muahaha , ya right i would be in jail for that stunt but i do want to at least ride in street and not worry
