How To: Cheap Rear Brake....LooK

Hey Bterry08 and myself threw together a pretty neat little rear brake kit today, all you need is:
Brake lever (bmx), cable, Adjuster nut, cable stop, and piece of metal plate
here are the pics, the only stipulation is that if you have really wide tires it may rub???
1. pretty self explanatory, its the bmx lever on the handlebar

2. Now route the cable through the hole in the frame, this is the trickiest part, my suggestion is to run the cable through the adjuster nut, then run the bare cable through the hole..

also, run the nut part on the backside to secure the adjuster

next, drill a hole to fit on the rod that runs through the swingarm and a small hole that the cable will fit through, then double nut on both sides, you will also need a spring (smaller than original to run from the plate to the rear brake link adjuster thingy....also, the part of the cable that you cut off to fit (casing) put that back over the cable itself and it will serve as somewhat of a rub protector just incase your tire happens to ever touch it...

also, put the stopper on the backside of the cable....
here's one last pic in the middle of assembly, but you're done....

the whole project cost about $19, but if you can get the parts cheaper you may be able to get it down some...

also, the hole in the frame is already there, there's no drilling...

Well, that's pretty confusing, but I think I could figure it out. How do you account for extra slack in the brake cable (if there is any)? That's actually really neat. Thanks for the idea man!

been running something like that for the last few weeks, but I just wrapped the cable around the nut on the rear brake and put a pinch bolt/nut on the cable to hold it there. Works great, I can even lock up the rear with the handbrake

just find a stop nut to hold it behind the plate, it will hold and you can put it wherever on the cable to adjust it, also the slack isn't that great, just have someone sit on the bike whenever you adjust the stop nut.......

glad you guys like it, it's a cheap alternative to the fast 50's 100dollar kit, and you retain the foot brake
