newbie

my little brother just bought an xr50 and plans on modifying it pretty heavily. he's only 13 and has a budget based on allowance and christmas. i have no experience with dirtbike but i do have a pretty good background in cars so i would feel pretty comfortable with any mechanical work that needs to be done on the bike. i am just looking for some insight as to where to start. remember, its a pretty low cost project for the time being. when he bought it it already had raised handle bars but is stock otherwise. he just ordered a new air filter that, from his description, apparently gets rid of the air box or whatever its called. are there any other fairly inexpensive mods that are worth the money? i've been reading a little and it seems an 88cc bore kit would be a drastic improvement but thats a little out of range for now. any tips will be very helpful and sorry for the stupid questions.

MAYBE

visit www.powroll.com

get the thrust chamber and the nozzle they are $29 each and then order a #60 main jet and drop the needle down 1 notch(which means raise the clip) should not have to mess with the fuel mix screw at all. but will give a little extra punch prolly about 1/2 to 1 hp but will give a considerate more torque for the feel of things. It's on my buddies bike and I notice a difference from the time I rode before to the time after we put it on.

Any questions feel free to post up.

i've also read that removing the baffles from the muffler can help out a little. i know it will prolly be much louder but would this be recommended?

adding

the thrust chamber and nozzle is a lil bit louder than stock but not as loud as full aftermarket exhaust, cutting the spark arrester out will be louder than the nozzle and chamber, and you won't have the arrester in there to stop sparks if you're in a forest to cut down on fires and chit.

peace

cool, thanks. what about springs? it seems like they would help him out quite a bit. he rides off road mostly and they are fairly cheap. i'm sure shocks and forks would be great but they're as much as the 4 adjustable shocks i just bought for my car!
