need help with coasties

I practiced some coasters yesterday for the first time. I am pulling up 3rd gears and going pretty fast and just cranken em back, pulling up on the shifter and riding the brake. How the hell do you ride them longer than 15-20 ft? lol. I suck. I guess its that I am trying to ride them too high and using too much brake. I know what I need to do, but as far as brake tecnique I dont.. To get some longer ones, do you just get it the smallest bit past the balance point and barely ride the brake? or do you get it barely past and tappy tap it.. I am just bored sittin at work thinkin about it..

It's all about brake control. You just gotta be in the zone....too far back and you'll scrub off lots of speed cause you'll be on the brake hard. Just get it up barely past the balance point and gently tap the brake. It probably won't be that gentle when you are first learning but.... keep practicing and it will become second nature

hellz yeah. That **** works good. I coasted 8 parking spaces tonight! I was trying to ride the brake up until tonight.. tonight I was just givin it a tap tap taperoo and I was rollin way farther. I was all exited and my friends were all lookin at me like.. who cares.. that doesnt look cool so I tried to explain what I was doing to get them to realize the difficulty involved so I went out there and did a couple and reved the engine up and down and the last time I did it, my foot popped off the damn shift lever and I went for a nice ride.. 3rd gear crashes suck!

Go out and practice somewhere secretly... Don't let your friends know whats up until you can coast around 200 ft to a complete stop with the throttle pinned at WOT. F*** just revving it up..... pin the bi@tch to the throttle stop! That will definitly get there attention Oh and Be careful!

I can roll them out about 30 feet on my push bike :P but we called them butt slides hah. Easier to see what happening on a pushy as you stop pedaling and just keep going

50 on the way soon I hope

Its nothing spectacular to look at. It looks like a pretty crappy wheelie really. All you do is haul ***, pop it up and pull the shifter up so its in a false neutral and balance the bike with only the brake.. kinda like a stoppie, but on the back wheel and you use the rear brake. I am hopin to have 200+ feet by the weekend.
