Checking Valve Clearence

Okay I did a search and did not find what I was looking for .

I want to check the valve clearence on my XR . I have built 2 small block chevy engines so I just need some guidence from someone who has done it .

Anybody want to walk me through it . Just tell me what to look out for and such .

From what I have read I know I have to make sure the cam gear and flywheel marks are lined up . I need to set the clearence to .05 metric / .002 american . Then I need to rotate the motor counter clockwise 2 rotations and check to make sure their is no lash .

So how do I adjust the lash ? What do I need to remove to do it ? I have never had the fiddy apart so I am looking for help .

Thanks , Mike

dood, take the flywheel cover off the bike. no oil will come out so dont flip out. i believe its 4 bolts. line up the line on the flywheel with the line on the case. take off yer valve covers and rattle the rockers to make sure u are at top dead center compression stroke. if there is no lash, turn the engine 1 complete rotation and check again. once u feel u have the engine on top dead center compression, stick feeler gauges in there and measure. if they are at .002 sweet. if not, adjust. thats it. simple. good luck
