50 died today

ok I got the same symptoms as when my intake was leaking real bad. It started back firing bad and then died. it fired up again ran fine for a few min. then did the same thing. so i brought it back in tore the carb apart cleaned it again and put it back on. checked spark seemed a little weak so i cleaned up the plug and shure enough it got better. still no start. so i took off the cover on the left side exposing i assume the fly wheel and the nut seemed a little loose so i snuged it back up. got it to fire and idle. throttle it died. got it idleing again like crap mind you and sprayed the bowl of the carb it died. so i sealed that with some intant gasket like i did the other intake leak. fire it back up it revs now but runs like its missing a cyl. like it did when i had a real bad intake leak. sprayed the entire carb and i get nothing. but when i spray where i'm guessing the headgasket is on the left upper corner on the motor if your sitting on the biek and it seems to boil the cleaner then it almost died intantly doesn't even studder. my question after all that is can a head gasket make this thing run like this or is this motor pretty much junk? i'm going to have to start looking for a complete 50 motor cuz i'm tired of trying to fix this one. Oh yea not shure if it helps at all but i think this is a LIFAN motor and if it could be a head gasket its getting a new motor.

Thats what i was thinking that was my plan eventually since i don't even know what this is but was hoping it would have held out longer as it ran pretty strong

Still sounds like a crab problem to me... Do you have any clue what you are doing or you just guessing? Cause they can be pretty tricky... But as i said before... Just get a new motor... If you have the money for a 88 kit just use that money to buy a motor (Not a shitty china motor)

Re: 50 died today

I do know what i'm doing for the most part this is the first dirt bike ive really owned i'm a car buff so i can work on anything that has more than one cyl. lol but the dirt bike thing i'm slowly learning. i'm also not a carb person. the first time it did this i was able to tune the carb out pretty good until today when i dropped it on the left side twice. when i hit some ice but. oh well i've eyed up two motors so far about 200 for either of them so i'll be getting the honda motor back in since i don't have the money to buy the AHP motor i want

Re: 50 died today

just read your other post about not having an intake gasket and using cardboard.. you've got all kinds of problems, fix it before taking other stuff apart.

that's a start

Re: 50 died today

Well i went downstairs and decided just to kick it over and it fired right up! so i rode it down the road today There is a little snow and the road it wet. but i got about a block and it dies again the same way it did yesterday. but now once and a while i can get it to idle but as soon as you give it any throttle it dies. i'm thinking this may be a ignition issue??? any ideas i know my CDI box is a zonko? maybe a bad cdi box or maybe its getting wet??? i'm not shure a motor will fix it at this point

Re: 50 died today

could be the CDI... try whacking it a couple times with the handle of a screw driver and seeing if it fires up. could be something clogging the fuel line, or it could just be a piece of ****. do a compression check on the cylinder and check ALL wiring. its a small motor, it can't be hard to find

Re: 50 died today

Well we swapped cdi boxes with anouther and it ran just the same found a wire that was just about to break was told it was a trigger wire. fixed that by hard wiring it. still runs like crap. next on the list is the coil and plug wire i guess. seems to only give me trouble after it really warms up. or gets wet. i may need a new wiring harness after this is done. Along with the honda motor i'll be getting

Re: 50 died today

Still sounds like a fuel problem to me... You know your getting spark... If it was electric it would be more random and not after running for awhile more then likely ... (Not always but just saying i would be checking fuel lines and carb again)

Re: 50 died today

it does sound kinda like what happens when a cdi craps out, but i think its fuel delivery too

Re: 50 died today

Why dont u try swapping the carb with the bike u got the cdi box from. U know its not the cdi, but u dont know if its something to do with the carb........IMO, this is a process of elimination, and the cdi has been eliminated. So lets see IF the carb can be eliminated.......If u swap carbs and it runs fine, then u know what ur problem is...=-)

Re: 50 died today

unfortunately we just sold the two bikes i could have swaped stuff from yesterday if we had more time we were going to try swaping stuff like the coil and didn't think of the carb yet. I'm still getting a new to me honda motor next week hopefully if shipping is fast and it looks to have a new coil and has the stock carb setup not the china version. A friend of mine back for the holidays from MMI is saying its more than likely ignition because of the wet we ran it thru. plus he sat there and tweaked with the carb until we got it to idle again like crap. he said the way it pops and cracks when its running its missing on spark witch it does again have weak spark. but when i get the new motor i'll be able to do more procces of elimination by not swaping the coil and just using the motor with stock carb.
