Learning how to wheely...CRF150F or TTR125L????

Hey guys,

I am planning on buying a cheaper small bike tomorrow to learn how to do wheelies, etc. because I don't want to smash my road bike.

Would you guys choose a CRF150F or a TTR125L? The CRF has a bit more power, but also weighs 40 pounds more than the TTR....

I'm sure a lot of you guys have ridden/wheelied these motorcycles...so which one do you think is better to practice on?

I rode the CRF150 for quite some time. Got pretty good on it. It may be brute heavy, but its got good power.

get a 50, I have a crf150 a f4i and a crf50 with an 88kit, I tried on the crf150 1st and it was okay, but the 50 is the best for learning brake control and wheelies..I also have a stock 50 but cant wheelie that for ****, had a 70 too and that sucked..the 88 is the way to go..throw on a bbr peg mount which lowers the pegs and u r in business

In that vid. , was that 1st gear ? And were you on the brake . I heard that the 150 had lots of engine brake , so i was wondering if you were just using the throttle when you had the front end up that high and going slow .

I might get a 150r soon but they have 2 models with different wheel sizes . Did you have street tires and where did you get them ? thanks .

A stock 50 will wheelie fine . You just have to practice and learn how to pull it up and ride far back . but yeah a 88 will be more powerful .

A bbr peg mount doesn't have a kickstand mount .

Re: Learning how to wheely...CRF150F or TTR125L????

UPDATE: I picked up a 2001 TTR125L today!! Its in really nice shape and has been maintained well. I'm impressed with how freakin light this thing is. No need to abuse the clutch to get the wheel up. Just put it in 2nd or 3rd gear, gas it and pull the sucker back and the wheel comes right up. now I just need lots and lots of practice to get it up higher and keep it there.

thanks for helping out guys!

That wheelie was 2nd gear even though it was slow. No need for the foot brake cause the engine braking is so MASSIVE. I'll tell ya I almost never used the rear brake except for pretty far back.
_____

If you're looking at the 150R (the new race bike), I'm sure its a MUCH different bike from the 150F (trail). The 150R has got liquid-cooling, more horses, much tighter bike, front and rear discs... blah blah

Do yourself a favor and learn to clutch it up anyway.

Yeah I feel I got more control that way. Man is it ever easy to get this thing up to. I brought it up in 4th gear today...
Just have to learn to do it consistantly and to find the balance point and keep it there. It'll probably take me a while because I don't have a decent place to practice around here.....
