Re: what is the best cop scanner
hmm well my daly fiddy ride with budies allways turns into a cop ditching situation where we all split up well my buddy got caught after like the 10nth time we all got away safely. he got his fiddy impounded and ive gotten to some close calls. it would be better if wer had some notice since most personal scanners have head phone jacks. 415 is the code here in cali for disturbances like riding 50's so if i had a radio we would have a better chance of getting away or getting off and walking our fiddies. cop radar would probably to late of notice//
Re: what is the best cop scanner
Its not that easy, but if you want to give it a shot go for it. A lot of things are happening on scanners and you really have to pay close attention to whats being said. That will be hard to do if you are ridding a fiddy. Its not like in the fast and furious. If your set on doing it though, just go to radio shack and buy a hand held for like 80-100. The only real difference between those and the higher end models is stuff you dont need to worry about anyways. Like how many channels it will hold and crap like that. FYI most repeat disturbance calls are done with nextels and stuff.

You are right for the most part but the higher end scanners do have necessary features on them. The cheaper scanners are Garbage for trunked Freq transmissions.
If I had to rob a bank and get away with it I'd have two scanners running at the same time. You do have to listen very close to catch what you need. Radio Shack has a really good scanner for $400.oo
Digital Trunking is very important. Especially if you live a in or near a bigger city. Takes awhile to really be able to use a scanner, and program them correctly.
In the state of Michigan you no longer need a permit to have a scanner in your car. Last year it was not legal to even buy one a transport it home.

Re: what is the best cop scanner
around here the cops wen t full digital, adn i dont' think we can scan them any longer, at least not with the regulat cheapo scanners from the shack... if the cop cars only have a little round puck on the trunk instead of all those antennas, i think you'll have to spend a pretty penny ona scanner that can get the scoop
Re: what is the best cop scanner
okay i use a scanner when i ride by myself, just to be on the safe side. I use a 1000 channel dual trunking scanner from radio shack, and it works very well. Just have to pay attention to where you are and where the call is going out to. Somtimes it comes in as noise disturbance or suspicous person, or trespassing. But if you hear your location at all mentioned on the scanner its easy...you just leave. ANY DUAL DRUNKING or TRIPLE TRUNKING scanner will work in almost every county, no matter what. they arent as effective though in some counties because some counties have nextel.
