how to correctly break in a big bore engine w/clutch
tips needed heard many different ways like idle till hot then shut off till cool then idle again and stay in low revs then let cool and repeat..then stay easy on engine for a week...
Re: how to correctly break in a big bore engine w/clutch
You have a oil cooler system? I was told that if your running a big bore kit it's not good to let it idle for a long period of time or to run it hard for more than like 30mins w/ out an advanced coo
ling system...?
ling system...? Re: how to correctly break in a big bore engine w/clutch
I wouldn't run any engine hot to break it in
Unless you mean "hot" is letting it warm up to turn the choke off , and riding it a little .
I would just drive around at low speeds for a couple of days .
And don't rev it high . Then maybe change the oil after . And don't use synthetic .
Letting a bike idle on the kickstand for a long time doesn't sound like a good idea . It will build to much heat without any air blowing on it .
And an oil cooler really does not work unless you are moving , letting air go thru it .

yeah i just putted around on my bike for like the first week, then started to ride it a lil harded every 2 or 3 days after (progressively) until i felt it was broken in enough. but yeah im looking into a billet oil cooler so i can ride longer and push my engine a lil harder....oh yeah...high revs no good

i was doing 1st gear bp wheelies and smackin the rev limiter every once in a while within 10 minuets of installed my tb 88 kit. runs great still
Re: how to correctly break in a big bore engine w/clutch
i ride the **** out of new stuff... just no extended idling, or constant speed constant rpm (like highway steady for an extended period of time) and I change the oil/filter at 50-75 mi, 250 mi, 500 mi, then i follow the regular intervals.. never had any major breakdowns (other than racing, and the missed shift on the turbo bike) and i had alot of motorcycles
