handbrake pics and other..hurricane f2...alomost a DYI tutorial

here's teh pics you were asking for in your handbrake post

i got this 50 this week, and these are teh parts i fabbed up in a little under 2 hours.

here's the bmx bars and gooseneck, i milled the gooseneck down and drilled and tapped extra holes in the bottom to mount it to the stock top plate on the forks.

the throttle is from a kawasaki 500 tripple and the levers are moutain bike, this is hte gooseneck up close

here's 2 pics of the rear brake, all parts are from ace hardawre or the bike store. i cut the bracket out of 1/4 alum. w/ a bandsaw but there's easier ways available at ace

here you can see the mountain bike cable clamp on a small angle aluminum bracket, you can also see the pegs w/ welded on adjusters, this let me pull the stock adjusters off to get more room for teh axle nut to thread.

as for the front brake and throttle cable, i just routed ema bit different.

here's me stunnin in the house..hahahah

hope this helps some of you that are looking to save $'s and do it yourself.
the only things i had that you might need to get acces to are a welder and a bandsaw......you can cut the gooseneck w/ a bandsaw, but i used the mill to make it purdy.....other than that you need a drill and basic hand tools. good luck!

setup looks great to me, if it's not grabbing tight enough, get a "linear" brake lever, i hear they are really worth it in the means of extra lever advantage on the brake.

keep rockin da

how well does it work? seems like if the suspension compressed it would create slack in the HB cable, causing the brake to let up. i don't think there would be any other way to get around that except mounting the cable stop to the swingarm. some good ideas though.

I love seeing stuff like this, i made my bar setup almost the same way you did, except i bolted a plate on top of the honda one so it would be a bit stronger

it changes the feel a little and gives some slack when the rear compresses but you still have enough travel in the lever to bring you back from a 12:30-1:00 wheelie.

i just went and double checked after you posted, and the play created is'nt even noticeable when your ridin' it, But it's plain as day if you grab teh brake and lift the front while standing still. you can bouce it and feel the lever move a bit.

i think the one mounted on the swingarm (picture above)looks ****, but till mine lets me down, i'm not gonna sit and mill one out right away.

i was curious about that, sounds ok though. i have the mill at work so if i find a chunk laying around i think i'm just gonna mill one, it would look trick anyway. thanks for the input
