FHP to declare war on sport bikes...
........Just my prediction after the pursuit and crash which ended in the death of a Trooper on I-4 today. My guess is that there is absolutely no slack given for a while (not that there ever was before). Apparently the chase hit speeds over 150 and the Trooper was in a Camaro, which there wasn't much left of if you see the pic in the link.

DELAND, Fla. -- A Florida Highway Patrol trooper died Saturday when his cruiser crashed and was split in half during a chase on Interstate 4, according to Local 6 News.
Local 6 News reported that Darryl L. Haywood, 49, of Palm Coast, died at the scene after hitting a tree near the eastbound lanes of I-4 just east of state Road 44 in Volusia County.
The motorcyclist he was chasing was captured a few hours later near St. Augustine. Donald Williams, 38, of Seffner was being held in the St. Johns County Jail on a felony aggravated fleeing and eluding charge, said Trooper Kim Miller, a FHP spokeswoman.
Additional charges against Williams may be pending, Miller said.
Investigators suspect a right rear tire on Haywood's Chevrolet Camaro cruiser blew, causing the patrol to hit an Audi driven by 24-year-old Thomas Evanchik, of Daytona Beach.
Miller said the patrol car flipped several times and slammed into a tree on the south side of the interstate.
Evanchik was taken to Halifax Medical Center with minor injuries, Miller said.
Miller said Williams was spotted by another trooper traveling in excess of 150 mph on Interstate 95. Williams was captured by a St. Johns County deputy at a truck stop when he stopped to fix a flat tire.
Haywood, a four-year veteran of the FHP and a retired New York City homicide detective, was honored as Trooper of the Month in July for pulling a person from a burning car.
He is survived by his wife Linda, two children and a grandchild.
One of the suspects in the chase was still being sought Saturday night, Local 6 News reported.

Re: FHP to declare war on sport bikes...
why on earth was the trooper going 150 MPH? was he trying to kill the biker, the other drivers, or just himself? Or are you going to try to tell me he was pursing an idiot on a crouch rocket for my health?
I though it was illegal for cops to pursue over 110 in FL?

Re: FHP to declare war on sport bikes...
thats what he gets for breaking the law. if there is a law stating not to chase over 110 and he breaks it, serves him right. just cuz hes a cop doesnt make him above the law. rip anyways

Re: FHP to declare war on sport bikes...
Well I was correct. Anyone who was out tonight in Daytona for 2 wheeled Tuesday @ Hooters knows this. They were out in force in the city flexing their legal muscle and showing off their lack of intelligence. So if anyone is going out in Orlando Thursday night be careful, b/c they proved tonight that you don't even have to be rolling to come up to you and start running licenses, bikes, and talking ****. I think I came off alittle harsh on the my first post. RIP and stuff. I'm sad to hear anyone dies needlessly. These guys do sometimes give us alot of grief. Ask anyone who knows me and they can tell you I'm scared to hell of any cop I don't know, but most these guys are good guys whom go out there 5-6 days a week to try to make this world a better place.
But, I do stick by my stance that if that guys was speeding at a buck fidy theres no way I'd concider it safe to pursue him. If they were chasing a seriel murderer or Osama I'd feel differently, but the articles implies the guys was just ahigh speed speeder.
There was something kinda like this that happened down here a couple months ago. A guy posted that he was riding threw a city street minding his own buisness not speeding or do anything wrong. A cop started just fallowing him around (ofcourse he said swears e was doing nothing wrong.) So anyway as the poster goes on the guy goes threw a yellow light and barely makes it, the cop tried to get threw, but it's red and the cop gets T-boned by another car.
The next morning they had it on the news, "an officer was hit while pursing a motorcycle suspect last night at [whatever the intersection was, I've forgoten]." It is funny sometimes the way a story can be so different depending on who is telling it.....
Re: FHP to declare war on sport bikes...
You know...maybe if cops could swallow their do-gooder pride for a minute and NOT risk lives chasing an idiot...they'd be better off.
That aside, R.I.P., and I wish the best for his family.

Re: FHP to declare war on sport bikes...
Yeah its always gonna be the bike fault in the police's eyes and they are going to make sure the media get it across to the public. Its kinda stupid sometimes becuase why would you chase a sportbike they have way more stability at top end then a cop car Z28 or not.
