hey at least with a 636 you can check to see if it's loose,if you ride a gsxr there is no way to check for this,it just happens....lol

This strap wrench u refer too...... I could get this at a auto store?
yea and a rubber bicycle tube helps with the grip on the fork tube ,obviously clean both the fork tube and the bike tube with soapy water and you can leave the forks on the bike just take the wheel off and put the axle back in so the tube doesn't spin the bottom part when your tightening it...
