Moving from Canada to FLA
Moving from Canada to FLA
A friend and I are moving from Toronto to Florida in late '05. Were sick of the cold, harsh environment here, and we are not tied down to anything as far as marriage/mortgage/kids.
As of right now, it looks like we'll be starting out in Delray Beach, as my Aunt has a condo there that she rarely uses. Its a big help to not have to look for a place, and live for free or close to it for a while. What can anyone tell me about the area, as far as cost of living, jobs, industry, night-life/bars etc. I will be looking for a position as an inside salesman at a structural steel supplier, and my buddy will be looking for work in engineering/project management. We are flexable, and will work in bars, retail or whatever to get our foot in the door. We are 22 and 26, so we don't want to be stuck in a retirement area either. Are there any stunters there?? We both have stunt bikes, and intend on using them 12 months a year, opposed to the 5-6 were used to right now.
West palm beach looks to be about 20 minutes north and a bigger city, so please tell me about that too.
We are flying down to checkout stuntwars, and then heading south from Lakeland to stay in Delray for the week of February 14th-18th to scope the area. Any places we should check out while were there????
Reply or PM me, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!!!
Reg

Re: Moving from Canada to FLA
Delray is a centralized location between Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. I live about 20 miles north of West Palm Beach, there isn't anything to do in the city I live in but Downtown West Palm is a hot spot (off of Okeechobee Blvd-East). Ft. Lauderdale is where most of the South Florida stunters are located. Downtown Ft. Laderdale is also a hot spot (Las Olas Blvd). You can find just about any job in South Florida, I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Having somewhere to live is a big plus for you guys!
I'll be at Stuntwars so maybe we'll get to meet.
If you have any other questions, shoot me a PM and I'll try and help ya!

I will also be at Stunt Wars. I live in Boca which is just south of Delray. If you guys need someone to show you around just give me a holla. Like Princess said Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm are going to be your hot spots, but they are all just a short ride from where you will be in Delray Beach. Good luck with the move..

Thanks alot for the help.
Right now the biggest problem is immigration. The government web sites make it sound like it takes a really long time to get a visa, and you need to give them one hell of a reason to live and work in the US.
Living in Canada, which is a similar country that has LOTS of immigrants (especially in the city I live in) it certainly seems to me that it isn't that hard to move to and work in either Canada or the US. I need to find someone that has moved from Canada to the US without getting married (which might be my last resort! lol)

That or I might have to find a potential wife on next months trip.

Re: Moving from Canada to FLA
Hey man, I just moved down here to West Palm from Detroit a few weeks ago, the place is amazing, you'll love it. Jobs dont seem to hard to find down here, I get 3-6 offers a day for random jobs from people Ive never met!
Just cant except any in fear of drug tests...
But living here is definately cheaper than Detroit and the payscale is much better than there... Here in West Palm there's a decent amount of riders and places to hit up and the few cops Ive encountered have been really cool about riding(especially since Im missing an endorsment
) but Lauderdale has alot more to do, alot more bikes and theres tons of beautiful women like Princess around
I'll be at StuntWars either by myself or with most likely with R62GO so hit me up and we'll start riding the day you get down!

This is gonna sound silly to meet at Stuntwars when we probably live around the corner from each other but hopefully I'll get to meet you guys out there (or here, whichever happens first).
