Downloads And Trailers...

When I first discovered Stunt Life a year ago I knew I'd found somewhere a little special on the 'net - and somewhere that was inhabited by people who'd encourage me in film film making as well as my riding ... and I was right, too

The one thing I missed, though, was constructive criticism of the stuff I posted, which I mentioned when I first joined. I was told that forum members used to try and do that but a couple of people took it really personally so most people simply gave up and would only comment when they liked something. I still think this is a shame as there's a lot of experience and knowledge on here...

Anyway, to the point...

Recently a few downlaods and trailers have been posted that have received less than positive comments - and these comments have received negative comments too. Now, if what's posted is a download of someone learning, someone who's just got a new trick nailed, someone who's just made their first short clip etc. then some of the negative comments have indeed been rather out of order for all the reasons given in those threads

However, those same arguments have been used in threads where someone's posted a trailer for their new DVD. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but surely if someone expects the public to buy their DVD then it should at least be of a minimum quality? Arguments like 'we all had to learn somewhere' simply don't cut it when you're talking about what is obviously a pro-DVD. If it isn't professional then why are you selling it? It's getting to the point where any one and everyone is not only making DVDs, but when those DVDs are simply bad and someone says so they're accused of forgetting where they came from rather than what's really true which is someone or some crew are trying to make money out of something that simply isn't worth buying, almost considering it a 'right' to make money rather than doing their damndest to produce something with quality and/or waiting until such a time that they have the experience and talent to produce that film

I realise I'm starting to ramble big time here, but I see a huge difference in people posting free downloads of themselves or their friends having fun and people posting trailers for DVDs that are made specifically to make money. The former deserve as much encouragement and support as they can get. The latter deserve nothing - it's up to them to produce something worth paying good money for or take the criticism/abuse for expecting the public to buy their badly made crap

Bugger it. There was a point to all this but I can't remember what it was...

Couldn't agree more. If you're trying to flog something off for cash and you expect me to buy it, it A.) better be really bloody cheap, or B.) really bloody good. Some stunt vids are just plain crap, but then I suppose caveat emptor, just have to do your homework abit more before buying something. Criticism wise, there is a fine line sometimes between constructive and destructive. I don't think someone should get a reaming for putting something they're doing for fun and sport on here for us to view, but if it's a trailor, I'm with Veg.
