Final Cut Pro or Avid Xpress on the Mac (I would got with Final Cut Pro). Premeire or Avid Xpress on the PC.

If you want to do just basic stuff Avid has Xpress lite for free to download from there site. Premire works really well with Photoshop and can acces all of its plug-ins. If you have more specific questions let me know.

your asking in the wrong place, try an A/V forum where people have a clue. But seeing as you have to ask whats the best... do you think thats really where you should start? Right now it sounds like moviemaker or other os type NLE software would be more power than what you would put to use.

PS the best NLE software it only supported over its own hardware

Some of us do actually have a clue.

Considering the forum I am pretty sure he/she is not looking for the higher end solutions. This kind of question in this kind of forum indicates an interest in the pro-sumer market as opposed to full blown high-end systems.

there is about a handful that do.. and pro-sumer is still more than he/she will us. It just like the people that cry out.. "will someone send me photoshop, I cant resize my pictures to get them on stuntlife" give me an f-n break. He/she asked for the best.. not for a good starting point, or the best way to learn, but the best software to edit. That said, nobody on stuntlife has experince with the best, i dont care what people think they pirated cuz they are 1337 h4x0r.

Ah...see your point. I would have to agree with you. That is why I mentioned the free Avid Xpress Lite. It has the functionallity to get them started and let them play around with a program that gives a feel for the more serious stuff. That and it comes with some tutorials which should help.

But I do agree......I have seen to many people rush to get Photoshop and all they do is resize stuff. For that they can stick to MS Paint.

For shame Nef....

You left out Lightwave, Houdini and Cinema 4D for 3D.

I hate lightwave, Houdini has always been real buggy, and cinema 4d right up there with the likes of rhino, form*z etc

Gix6xer - Sorry we hijacked your thread. Go with Xpress Lite
http://www.avid.com/forms/freeDVReg.asp
that should get you what you want with out to much pain or commitment.

Nef - What is wrong with Lightwave, I use it all the time(well that and Maya) . Gimme that over Max anyday of the week. As for Houdini I have not used it but it has a great reputation for dyanmics and effects. I don't know a damn thing about Cinema but everyone keeps lumping it into the high end so I figured I should throw that one out.

Max is the standard for gaming, miari is nice as well.
Lightwave..well it was the only decent thing the mac had for a while so it has a nice little following.. just not for me.
The fundametals of 3d is always going to be the same.. the rest is all about workflow etc. Max is a lot like maya in that way.

Have any Lightwave 3d to showcase?

One or two things on my site. Not much right now...I am in the middle of updating it. I have been a lazy *** since I have been so busy with work and freelance stuff. That and working on a project with a to do some character animation.

I have been waiting for Mirai to update there stuff. Considering it is a few years behind and still stands up against the newer stuff that just supports what a bad *** program it is. I played with Nendo some and liked it.

Vegas video is to editing what F2 CBR's are to stuntriding. easy to obtain, not exactly the most powerful thing on the planet, but any idiot can probably do an okay job with it.

Vegas is just fine for the casual user, and miles beyond premiere.

Vegas sucks *** for pro users, although there are a lot of semi-pro DV people messing with it, and it does have some decent build in color level and saturation correction, but when i say "decent" i mean "consumer level".
