Quick clip from 'Project Mayhem: California'
I wasnt reffering to that video, it's your video project California video, when busby pulled out the release form and said that all the footage from that event was his, I just dont get it when somebody doesnt want to be in your video and you use them anyways?? You guys talk lots about doing things for the sport but then dont wanna pay the riders what thier worth. Then you want to make a video of them and make even more money. So are you paying the riders or making money off them?? Crazy Martin was the star of project mayham how much $$ did he see from that video?? not ****!! give him copies of the video?? NO. Who makes the money?? west coast films!! Did they ride in the video?? NO. break ankles?? blow up thier bikes?? NO. Quit trying to come up off the riders, you wanna make a video go buy a bike spend the next 3 years practicing, crash yourself into the ground at 80mph, then you will get some respect.

Darius,
All i can say is that from everyone at WestCoast, we're sorry you see things that way.
I can say however, that we've done over 10 shows of the Project Mayhem: LIVE tour with the NHRA across the nation this year alone, working with Nick Dizzo & Schwartz from Scooter Trash, Thew from 1096, Nicely and Dean from Caliboyz, J.T. Holt, E-wrecked Riders, Aaron Byrd, Kevin Fraser, etc. and they have all asked to be in as many of our shows as we have space for in the future. We have respect as a production company...not as a riding group.

if your a production company wouldnt that make them, either a client or talent? clients getting a finished good to market and sell. or talent getting paid? And that goes for stunters to, if you want a certain production value, yet you cant afford to pay for it, well, your talent as a rider only takes production so far. Riders tend to bitch about my bike.. parts this and that that i had to replacse during filming... yeah that sucks... could be worse you could be paying the 20k per camera rig or 30k for a decent deck. The whole DV thing is giving consumers a big head.

Ya a production company shooting on vhs-c, or was in the cheapest mini dv cam you can get?? I would like to see your "studio" sometime. I had 2 professional camera men with me to film that day and you had what?? Dale with the smallest camera out! Your still just some guys in funny slacks n shirts kissing *** to NHRA to get some show's and then pay the riders ****. For the record I dont want to be a part of any west coast film works video's. And Tyson I thought you were always cool, it's your boss Busbbee who is a Shady *** Dude!
Westcoast,
Yeah that was pretty shady that day at Infineon you didnt let D's cameraman in to film him and his crew. The guy that was riding for you was fixing his bike half the time and he kept doing high speed highchairs and stoppies and thats it. I saw your first video and it was pretty lame
So how much do you pay the guys that perform in your videos?

i think if someone is going to make some money off making videos of riders that have worked there asses off to get where they are they should at least be compensated in some way.
Its wrong for production companies to film people in hopes of making a quick buck. Riders should at least either get a cut of the video once its released, or have all expenses paid to go out and destroy their bikes and in some cases themselves. Im sure there have been people who have traveled distances to go out and ride. Do they receive any type of compensation for going out of their way to get there? Do they get money to fix parts that they destroyed for someone elses benefit? I know this sport is barely getting off the ground and stuff like this takes time, but in the future things will have to work this way. This is a extreme sport. For us to go out of our way and risk our lives for the benefit of other people is wrong. Just my opinion

I agree but like i said its a symbiotic relationship. When one side starts leaching of the other its time to cut it loose. Both sides have a talent and had to put some effort in to get there. If riders think they can make a succcesful video with a dell, some pirated software and a canon zr60, I say let them do thier thing. But a real production, with real professionals ( because that seems to be a grey area here on stuntlife ) Would have much more success, even with say half the talent thats out there now selling all these videos, that are not paying the riders. But I dont know a single house thats gonna come do this because they love the sport. Both sides need to get what they deserve.
Besides given the same amout of time to practice a skillset, I bet stunters would be years behind A/V folks at the end of that time.

I hear you. I think the production side of it takes as much skill to do as it takes to stunt. But you also have to look at one major difference though. With stunting you put your life on the line each and everyday. You never know what could go wrong. Like you said, there has to be a respectable relationship between the two otherwise it just aint gonna work
Thats the truth.
Which production company out there is just gonna donate that much of their time to edit and produce a video for free? I seriously doubt they would be willing to do that. So why should stunters go out and stunt and put their lives on the line for no compensation? Why should someone else benefit from your hard work and effort? Thats where the whole relationship thing comes into play. I do for you, you do for me. Gotta help each other out.

Your right, a production company offers a service, and not doubt most stunters cant afford it. But thats something they need to consider, if they think the coverage and exposure is greater than the rights to the dvd and the prophet, well then its not really being exploited. At the same time if the House is banking on the team to make the dvd profitable and not making money as a service.. well their life and lively hood may be on the line as well because im sure they could be out on paying gigs if they are worth what the claim to be.
WORD well said
it could go either way. Its gotta be mutual.
BUt for production companies to take it upon themselves to film riders and say hey im gonna make a video of this and not help the ones who actually made this video possible is wrong. I could see in the beggining maybe teams wanted the exposure and im sure some still do, but people have been putting in the hard work and time to expose themselves through videos and competitions. If teams are ok with it thats fine, but at the same time you cant go out and film the best riders and just expect to use their skill for your own benefit and expect to give nothing in return.

No your right you cant. And those people finding themselves in video productions they themselves did not explicitly sign off on should step up and hand said idiots their asses in civil right lawsuits.
And I mean explicitly, none of this hey im gonna make a video sign here.. that contract is worthless.

you guys are making great points.. I feel the same way. I would love to edit a video but most guys up here cant supply me with the proper footage that I want to use. Then when I use other people's stuff they usually have a half assed cameraman that can't use a zoom button to save their life... therefore footage is usually 'okay'. The thing is that if i made a vid .... I would pay the stunters back that I used, if I could. I mean if I sold 10 000 copies and made 100 g's off of it HELL YEAH I am going to hook whoever helped me out !!! You help me , I help you

I hear you on the filming thing. It sucks cause I can film pretty good. I know how to get good angles and use the zoom. What sucks is that I get good footage of everyone but get nothing but shitty footage of myself. Oh well. One day I will find a decent cameraman to come out and film us.
