Re: Long Stoppies!!!
Here are a few tidbits of fact about this day:
1. Less than 600 ft approach, 85mph pickup speed.
2. Picked it up in 3rd gear with 2 down/10 up gearing and a slipping clutch. If you listen, the last bit where I stab the throttle before picking it up you can hear the clutch slipping.
3. 18 psi tire pressure
4. Michelin M1 tire
5. Ferodo street pads with stock rotors and 929 calipers
6. 2003....almost 4 years ago.
7. Nags, my offical referee along with Brock Catronio...One of the original high-rollers.
In my opinion, I don't see how I could have bettered this stoppie unless I had an additional 10mph or so on it. I'm confident I could not have rolled it any higher without going over pretty much the entire time, from pickup to where I put it down. I appreciate all the compliments and props I've received over the years regarding this clip. I check it out every once and a while and it's pretty much the only thing I've ever done in my life that I still go "damn...that was crazy" when I watch it or think about it. I woke up one day and told Brock and Nags "we're going to the spot...I'm going to break the world record today." To me, it represents the passion and drive that we have for this sport. The torch was passed to Ryan Cramer, then Bill D. I'm glad to see that today, there is as much pride and props given to the stoppie because in my opinion, it is the hardest and most dangerous stunt you can do on a bike. For those about to roll...I salute you. I like to see the progression and am glad to have been a part of it.
Thanks again.
