Any one in Iraq now?
Any one in Iraq now?
Im thinking about volunteering to go back for the summer. I spent OIF 2 out there doing convoy security. Just kinda bored back at home and I miss the rush. Well see. Anyone else out there in Iraq?
Re: Any one in Iraq now?
Yea, It's never really exciting, Just think that I might be happier thier then here right now,
feeling like I'm doing something that matters. Where are you at? I was at the Abu Ghraib Prison for OIF 2 running missions all the way from as far south as Kuwait to as far north as Mosul.

I'm currently off on my own in an LNO slot with an Infantry Battalion at Hope, formerly known as Eagle or War Eagle when you were here. I worked at Abu for a couple months. We were stationed at Slayer (part of the Victory/Liberty complex) and ran detainees from Abu to the CCCI in the IZ for prosecution daily. The rest of my company is at Rusamiyah (Cuervo).
Unless you are somewhere other than Baghdad, it will probably be very boring for you. Consider 1st CAV. I hear the Stryker BDEs see action, too.

Yea, if I go back its going to be baghdad perferably. I don't mind seeing action, don't necessarily care to either, but I do get a certain satisfaction for a job well done and done safe. It does suck though when your on the wrong end of an IED. Stay safe while you there bro :YEAH
Re: Any one in Iraq now?
Yeah, we're MLRS and that's exactly what they told us during Mobilization - a SECFOR unit. Then we all got a 31 series MOS, they handed us brassards, and we're doing all the same jobs as the Active Duty MP's in our Battalion.
Re: Any one in Iraq now?
i hear ya brother. im 13M. In a NG unit. They pullin all combat arms into the infantry one way or another. Oh well. It beats chillen in the HEMMIT. You headin back anytime soon? Where are you stationed right now?
Re: Any one in Iraq now?
Yeah military member here at Balad Air Base Iraq and it isn’t the nicest spot
What can I say my idea of fun doesn’t exactly consist of getting mortar attacked everyday. I volunteered to come over here so I cant complaint too much I knew what I was volunteering for so if you decide to come back soon good luck and of course be safe.

The only thing I can think of is the outdoor patio. I've seen some DJ-like speakers over there, but ths FOB isn't heavily occupied, so its usually quiet. I can't think of anything else up here that would be called a "club". If there's any kind of club anywhere in theater, its has to be over at Victory or in the IZ. Re: Any one in Iraq now?
I lived in a house on the lake at Camp Slayer for two months - fishing, swimming pool, concerts (Rascal Flatts), daily trips to the bazaar and Liberty PX, indoor plumbing and all...
The downside was that we had to drive to Abu Ghraib and bring stinky detainees to the CCCI in the IZ everyday and babysit them while in the courthouse.

lol Re: Any one in Iraq now?
I just got back 3 days ago and if you want action you need to go to the west side of the country like Al Quaim. I was at Al-Asad supporting the Marines. Oh let me tell you the IED's are getting alot bigger also.
