hoopty humvee?

i heard some things about the humvees overseas being in desperate need of overhuling of...everything. i was wondering if anyone here knows more about it with first hand experience. is it true they were adding armor from blown up iraqi apc's?

Re: hoopty humvee?

That whole situation was blown way out of proportion with respect to the Humvees. The vehicles that were lacking armor the most were not the Humvees, but rather the Het's, 5-tons, etc. In te beginning there were many vehicles outside the wire that should not have been, but its very different now. I stay at Rustimiyah and Slayer and I very rarely see 1114's outsde the wire with any cobbled up crap on them. I still see fishbowls from time to time, but they are fairly uncommon. The next generation of fishbowls are out there now, but they look a hell of a lot sturdier. Still see weird 998's running around on post, as well as canvas-top Humvees, but those never leave the gate.

Re: hoopty humvee?

i can answer that they WERE using 1/4 steal and some 915s still use it but camp anaconda has a armor up shop and usally what ever you bring there theyll amor up wit the good **** not that hillbilly **** but it takes a little bit im usally drinving hets and the armor on them is good enough to save my *** from getting blown up twice so
what you here on the news is on the news for one reasons it CRAP they dont really know what going on here and id say 60% of what they say is true

Re: hoopty humvee?

must be nice being at a nice FOB. But I would much rather be were I am at, really makes you feel like a combat zone, not going to a freaking BK.
