You must master the brake control first, or you are going to flip. If you scared, practice on a quad. I first learned brake control on a quad, it helps, and you wont trash your bike.

When you are ready to 12, you will know it.

12 isn't something you just, dip back and hope it all goes right.. I mean you can, but thats not controlled...

Get smooth riding balance point, get smooth doing coasters, and when you want, just let the bike back a little and start scraping.

I have a 12 bar on my bike, but I'm starting to dig round bars.. Other then the fact 1 session and I wore through about 1/3 of my friends SI round bar

i second that. i saw my boy popping an '03 ex 250 up like whoa.

when i first went to "practice" i would pop it up,trying to catch idle, well at first, trying to find that spot,i wouldn't be on the throttle much at all, covering the clutch with my finger, and when my 12 bar scraped i just pulled in the clutch and stepped off, standing behind my bike.i had a 60 tooth sprocket so i was hardly moving and the momentum stopped after a foot.i also did not know how to cover the brake so it is only fair to say i learned to rely on engine brake and clutch.probly totally bass ackwards but it worked for me and don't recomend it.

Have you learned the rear brake?
If you have just dump back onto the 12 bar and roll away?

Re: learn 12s the easist way???

definetly not as easy as i thought. i've been riding wheelies for probably 6 to 7 years, (no slow technical stuff) so i just got enough $ to put together a stunt bike since i've had all new bikes before. went out lastnite and just said **** it i'm gonna try it. my bike's all set up...so i went to the stunt lot...first gear stand up and it came up hit the throttle to have it come back up and mashed on the handbrake...WRONG...slammed down flipped right over the bars...rashed up a little nothing much...somehow with a cage and 905 stunt pegs (almost stick out longer than the cage) the front brake lever snapped off. other than that it was fine. gonna go try some more here soon...i guess practice practice practice?

Your 12 bar might hold up but your subframe will probably **** up

Re: learn 12s the easist way???

Idk best way I've attempted to learn is to crash. swung it back to 12 on a power wheelie scraped -crashed- built my confidence oddly enough, although it did make my bike a little more ugly and I walked with a limp for two weeks but can't wait to try it again once I learn Bp a little better and how to catch rear brake.... Hindsight advice take it slow learn Bp and as they said learn coasters and then just ease it back... my dumbass move was based on a friend with a video camera..... And we all know video cameras and bikes mix like fat chicks and alcohol bad news from the start. Goodluck with it. video taping it though a: makes for good laughs and b: helps you analyze what you are doing wrong. So I reccomend it.

Just watch you speed cause yes my 12 bar kept me from looping but the rear tire washed out cause I was going to fast and when I came down the bike barrel rolled smashed my tank, trashed my upper stay, broke my brake lever an destroyed my left rearset. Subframe I think was fine actually.

Re: learn 12s the easist way???

If your afraid of hurting your bike, buy a stunt bike. If your afraid of hurting your stunt bike, your in the wrong sport, take up tennis or golf. The bike is gonna get all fugged up, that's just how it is. Learn slow!!! Buy a cage, maybe a subcage, forget about a 12 bar, DONT ride your bike to the lot, wear your helmet and some knee pads. Get ready for the ride and hold on..... Pack a lunch and some crutches.
