pro taper bars

alright got a couple questions....i started converting my 04 r6 from stock clip-ons to pro taper dirt bars, the bars are on and everything went relatively smooth xcept the throttle cables and clutch cable are tight as a virgin. can i re-route the cables to loosen them up or do i need to buy longer cables? any help would be great... also, whenever any of you switched to dirt bars did it feel wierd as hell? did it take long to get used to them and do u likfe em now??? i rode it around my backroad and it felt pretty akward...thanks for any help....

Re: pro taper bars

i have an f4i with pro tapers didnt have to extend anything and nothing was tight just had to unbolt the brake line for slack and reroute clutch cable, i think these bars give me more control

Reroute everything and you should be good.

Front brake lines will prob need changing though.

Re: pro taper bars

try and route the throttle cable in between the tank and triple instead of them going thru and coming up and around the triple.

Re: pro taper bars

I tried them on my 04 r6 and had the same problem.

I had the tank off anyway while i was working on it and tried rerouting it all but no luck no matter which way i went when it came to throttle cables. F4i's, 636s & gixxers I've had can be done but not this thing.

I read on the r6forums that somebody replaced the throttle cables with ones from an FZ-6 and it worked out.

I personally like dirt bars but on this R6 I ended up putting a set of Woodcrafts on there and flipped them and I really like the way they feel. The R6 handlebar height feels higher that other bikes to me so it all worked out.

Stock clipons flipped would've been ok just a little narrow but they are really weak and as T-Neck told me they will break off in your hand!

Re: pro taper bars

You got lucky Bro!

Let me know if your want a good set. I may have a deal worked out already with A-town so I won't sell them out from under him but I plan to sell my woodcrafts as soon as I get my conversion done.

I'm in the middle of a complete R1 front end conversion so they wont do me any good anymore.

Re: pro taper bars

Neither are 636's but they both make great bikes as long as you don't wreck
