Re: How do you drift?

dude, can you even ride a bike yet? don't mess with this stuff unless you can do some serious controlled stuff. you sound like a newbie completely asking about rear brake in a burnout.

i'm being serious, not just flaming, if you can't control your bike in all situations then you don't need to even attempt drifting. you will get hurt bad cause drifts tear a lot of things up when you make a mistake

I'm a beginner with 300 hours riding since last June. I started working on drifting the rear wheel a few days ago. In normal turns the rear wheel tracks in the direction it's rolling and it also drifts sideways a little. I had to feel the normal drift before I could practice causing drift.

In practice I try to make the rear wheel slip just a little more in the turn than it would normally. So far what I've figured out is start a turn in the usual way with wheel and shifting upper body weight to the side, then shift my upper body weight forward, off the back tire and onto the front tire and add a tiny bit of throttle in the process. I also have to wiggle my bottom in some mysterious way I can feel but can't describe. Once the back tire gets loose it's easier to keep it loose. It works the same on pavement or grass. I don't touch the clutch or brakes and do it all a 6-7 mph.

Before I started trying to drift the bike I spent half of my 300 beginner hours in a parking lot doing simpler exercises like Uturns and figure 8s. I don't know if I could have started learning drifting any sooner than that but I'm probably a slow learner. I don't know why it would be necessary to drop the bike a lot learning to drift.

Re: How do you drift?

I still cant do them but what helped me get it to break loose and be leaned over enough was to rear brake it atleast 180 deg then clutch. If your not leaned over it will pitch/highside before you now it.
