Brake Control on a 4 stroke

Ok - I did my searches and did not find this particular question asked. I recently bought a Suzuki DR-Z125 4 stroke dirt bike. I'm trying to learn brake control and slow my wheelies down. When practicing is it better to practice with my left leg dragging on the side of the bike and my right leg on the peg & brake or should I practice with both legs on the pegs? Since I purchased the dirt bike I really havent rode it but I want to start practicing my brake control and getting the BP down on that and hopefully xfer over to the gixxer. Feedback would be appreciated coz I'm stressin myself out on the gixxer. I think I'm making progress but my friends are telling me I'm doing the same thing over and over - basically poppin the clutch and riding it out redlining the bitch. I could swear that I'm poppin it up and not revvin the **** out of the engine as much as I used to but they say different. I'm gonna record myself on Tuesday but any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

No doubt - I know it can be done but is it better to learn both feet on the pegs or should I start out draggin one foot and braking with the other?

Re: Brake Control on a 4 stroke

what ever gives you the confidence to drop in ....

if you feel safer with a foot on the ground then do it that way if then you get braver then pic up your foot ....what ever it takes to learn the back brake......

Re: Brake Control on a 4 stroke

when doing wheelies, check the forks. They should be pointing to the horizon at least. usually even higher in enduro style bike.

if you are picking up speed, it's not high enough. drag the brake and get it higher.

I'll give that a shot later today. I know I'm not coming up high enough - I think I'm right below where I should be and I dont come up higher because I dont have my brake control on lock. I'll check it out later today and let ya'll know. Thanks.

Re: Brake Control on a 4 stroke

Okay - Just came off the dirt bike trying to master brake control. Every time i come up past the BP and hit the back brake the bike stalls out. Any ideas as to why? After 2 1/2 hours of popping the bike up and braking down I'm grasping the concept. I know - practice practice practice. Any one have any idea why the bike keeps stalling unless I grab the clutch in? Thanks.

Yeah I'm trying to get the control down but do you think it has anything to do with the idle? I'm gonna lower it a little tomorrow and see if theres any difference.
