Re: help to start my honda f4i

How did you test the plugs? Have you done anything to your ignition or tip over senser? What caused the problem or is it random?

Re: help to start my honda f4i

So when the plug was out you saw fuel exiting the plug hole right? That's how you tested the brain and fuel pump I'm guessing? Are you sure your firing order is correct? What is the stem of the problem? Generally the tip over sensor would disable your ignition so that should not be the problem if you see spark and have fuel spraying. Are you hearing the engine compress? If you have compression fuel and spark you should be ok, unless your wires are to the wrong plugs.

Really hard to guess this without more information.

Were you doing maintenance on the bike and it stopped working?
Did you wreck it and it stopped working?

What is the beginning of the problem? That will be the biggest clue.

This is about the tip over sensor:

Re: help to start my honda f4i

the tip over sensor was already bridged out. this problem started last week wednesday because of this problem i have with the cam seal which is damage. the oil is touching my sparks plug because of the damaged seal. i was gonna burn my sparks plug, i took the plug out and grounds it out on e frame and started the bike and it started. i burnt the plug and grounds it out on the frame just to see if it was working. i saw the plug sparking and the bike was not firing up. i took this for no big deal and put the plug back in the bike and try to start it again and then i realized that the bike would not fire up.

Re: help to start my honda f4i

After you burned the plugs, did you clean them off with anything? I would get new plugs if they were fouled. But that is just me. I would make sure your gap is correct as well. Also if you used steel wool to clean the plugs you may be shorting the plug with a tiny bit of material that is hard to see. I had a xr50 that wouldn't start because of some steel wool was contacting the electrode and I was lazy when I cleaned it. Use a wire brush, they don't fall apart as easily.

Also, did you do the plugs one at a time or all at once? I would also double check your firing order still.

One last thing, check the ceramic on the plugs for cracks, you may be shorting straight to your block and not getting a good spark in the cylinder.

Just me .02 ya know.

Re: help to start my honda f4i

it was only one plug which the oil always touch and it was sparking before i put it in the bike. i really cant understand why it will not fire up because the gas pump comes in when i turn the ignition on, there is current at the sparks plug and the ecu is fine because we checked it another bike and for the info bro sparks plug r not cheap hear in jamaica. one more thing i can see the gas coming out of the injectors, it low do u think that the gas pump strainer needs cleaning also. that night when bike stopped firing up i just rode it a few minutes ago that is why i can understand why it is not firing up now.

Re: help to start my honda f4i

Just my opinion on the matter, your problem is something you did. If you did not mess with the fuel rail or pump then I doubt that is the problem because you said it worked just fine before. Are you not getting any combustion at all in any of the 4 cylinders? You should still be getting explosions in the other 3 cylinders and the motor should still be trying to run. I would double check your spark wires and coils for damage. Maybe all of the moving around broke the core in the wire? 2002 is an older bike, when was the last wire/coil change?

Pull the plug and test resistance on it between ground and electrode, if the resistance is low your directly shorting to your block and will not get spark.

If your not getting combustion in any cylinders you may want to check your coils/wires, they can also short out and cause a similar problem.

I really hate to say it but the fix sounds more expensive than a replacement plug.

Re: help to start my honda f4i

there is a thermal sw. directly below the throttle bodies it has three wires going to it.....check the wires that none are broken, mine had been spliced and came apart...bike had a very hard time starting when cold, but if i massaged the throttle could get it to fire intermitently, eventually it would start fireing on all cylenders and slowly run better, once it had been started it would start right back up. if this is a problem the fi light will be on all the time on your gauge cluster.

Re: help to start my honda f4i

This should give you a run down of the coils and some other things you may not know about your cbr.

http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/264912.aspx

Maybe not the best way to change your plugs but it shows you the coils.

Hope you get it fixed. Sounds goofy to me, fuel + spark + compression = combustion... usually?

Did you check any other wires you may have not reconnected?

Have you tried starting it in a dark room and looking for electricity jumping from your boots/coils/plugs to the engine casing with all plugs installed? When you took your plugs out were they soaking wet with gas?

Re: help to start my honda f4i

Your engine was flooded, if it happens again, remove your plugs and let it dry out inside. Too much gas = not enough air and it will not combust. You actually run a risk of hydrolocking if your engine is too flooded, hydrolocking will damage a lot of internal parts, so try your best to avoid it. Have you done the Kleen air mod on your f4i yet? Just another thing to keep oil out of the inside of your cylinders.

Kleen air mod:

Glad you got it started!

Re: help to start my honda f4i

black smoke= excess fuel....flooded on carb bike, when they flood you hold the throttle wide open and crank it but i never realy heard of a fuel injected bike flooding.....
