Not a typical sprocket question

I still rocking some stock gears, and I'm not asking what type of sprockets I should get or any of that.

My question is for the people who learned BP on stock gears... When you switched over to +10 or whatever did you feel like you were re-learning wheelies for a bit or it just seemed ten times easier?

I'm just wondering for the purpose of maybe I'm wasting some time right now learning wheelies on stock, when I might have to re-learn the throttle/clutch when I change em out.

Re: Not a typical sprocket question

Once you have control down without sprockets, it takes 1 maybe 2 wheelies to learn sprockets..

The only thing is, if you re-gear before you can ride a steady wheelie, your throttle will be more twitchy, and it'll slow your learning curve down..

I always thought I needed sprockets.. when I started hitting 30mph wheelies I thought I needed sprockets to go slower.. Then I learned 20mph wheelies, then 15mph.. And I was stuck at 15mph for the longest time, I thought I NEEDED sprockets..

but I just kept working on idle, and practicing, and got down to being bale to idle at 6-8mph on stock gearing
Then I re-geared, and within 2-3 wheelies on gearing, I was back at riding idle, now at like 4-6mph

yeah just changes throttle control...gives you more engine break being the gears are shorter...and everytime i went up teath my wheelies slowed down

Had to relearn, but it was a pretty quick process. You have to train yourself to stay on the throttle longer until you get it real slow.

That is exactly what I'm talking about, my wheelies right now are getting to around 30mph when I start to get steady.

Re: Not a typical sprocket question

only takes me about 2 mins to get adjusted to a diff gearing. i learned on stock then went to -1 +9 set up then went back to stock on my next two bikes then got a bike with like +13 on it rode that for a month then went to -1 +3 then got my 636 and rode stock for awhile then settled at +7 which is perfect for me, but i can still jump on a friends bike with whatever gearing and get adjust within minutes.

Re: Not a typical sprocket question

I dunno I was stuck at 20 mph wheelies forever with no rear brake control, switched from a 45 to a 60 and learned idle at the spot that day.. but YMMV, I'm just a big pansy that doesn't like clutching the **** outta the bike.. I learned haulin *** highway wheelies with stock gearing on an R1 though..

I learned on a 150f, so I had to get used to a hand full of throttle, and dropping the clutch

probably the reason I have no problem getting up 3rd gear on a stock geared f4i with a 30k mile clutch

getting it up in 3rd gear? stock... what else was stock on the bike? because mine takes a **** in third gear.

it was bone stock

my 2nd gear went out at like 16k, so my only highway gear was 3rd.

It was funny, I ALWAYS had guys with 1000's going "how do you get up 2nd gear soo easy on a 600?" I always responded "2nd? I don't have 2nd, that was 3rd"

If you can't get it up, its because your not poping the clutch HARD enough. Ii'd have to get up to about 65-70, pull the clutch in, take it to rev limiter, and dump it lol

I can even get my 150f up in 5th gear lol.. ALthough that is pretty damn hard and rarely happens

roll at about 50 mph, rev it to redline, dump the clutch and yank. once you release the clutch, go full throttle until its all the way up

lol I still have this whole fear of looping stuck in the back of my head when im doing wheelies, which i guess is a good thing. I don't see myself redlining the throttle to pull up the bike
