Wanna do an oil change on my new XR50 .How much is optimum? I got a 45oz container.

 

i think it takes like .8 qt , i could be wrong .... just add a little by little until its full?

I always put a full quart in. But Mine leaks oil.

 

mine is a leaker too!!!

 

haha funny, I put a cup under it and fill it back up when I go riding

I did, it didnt hold any oil before I fixed it.


I'm supposed to bring it this week.

 

.75 quarts.

 

It's .6 quarts .

Warm it up .
Shut it off .
Drain the oil . Hold the bike upright and level cause the plug is on the right side .
Put the drain plug back in (tighten to 18 ft. lbs. )
Fill with .6 quarts .
Warm it up again .
Shut it off , and let the bike sit a couple of minutes .
With the bike in the upright position , recheck the dipstick and fill (if needed) to the upper fill mark on the stick .

You guys used a torque wrench to tighten your bolts ??

 

My arm is a calibrated torque wrench

anyway... just start with 1/2 a quart, start it for a few seconds to let it circulate, then re-check and add oil as needed. To ceck it pull the dipstick.. clean it off, then just set it in the hole ( don't screw it in) and then pull it out and read it...add opr remove oil till it's right. There's no magic amount of oil that is going to work everytime because there's too many factors like adding an oil cooler or not getting all the old oil out befor adding new oil. so unless you just want to over fill it you're going to have to read the dipstick instead of just dumping in X amount of oil because that's what johny or dave puts in his

 

That is honda spec. for the oil plug . right out of the manual .

18ft lbs is nothing . You can tighten that easily with your hand .

Just tighten it snug . Like a car oil pan bolt .

 

oil = 23cc thats less than a quart!
