Tire Irons?
Tire Irons?
I want to get into changing my own tires. I've changed my crf50 tires with no problems. I bought the tire irons that 50stunt sells. I have the 2 motion pro 11" tire irons, and the 1 Motion Pro 16" curved tire iron.
Both of these

Will these work on streetbike tires or should I get some other ones?

Re: Tire Irons?
Those are what I use..
Re: Tire Irons?
Do I have to do somthing special to get it to seal when the new tire is on? Or just put air in and it seals?
And does it matter if a wheel is not ballenced?
Would it be worth picking up a wheel Balancer?
like this one?

Re: Tire Irons?
I have an extra set of wheels for my R1 and my front wheel has a tire on it. I already have the tire irons and an afternoon to kill so i'm gonna try taking off my front tire and remounting it for the practice. I'l let you guys know how it goes. Thanks
Re: Tire Irons?
well my putting my ramp lip on the tire worked to break the bead nicley. I alreay got the tire off without problems. I'm about to put it back on now. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Re: Tire Irons?
Its back on and done. I did scratch my rim putting on the last 5 inches. I couldn't get the tire iron to bite and I did put a couple little scratches in it. I found that if I put all but the last 5 inches on and work the last tiny bit on with my hands and body weight that it goes on fine.
All said and done it was an extra rim and the little couple scratches did not make a difference. It was a good learning experience and I will not pay a shop to change my tires again. It was alot easier than I thought it was going to be.
Does anyone want to add into this thread what tecknique they use to get that last few inches on? When I tried using my tire irons they didn't seem to want to bite, but with my body weight and hands I didn't have a problem getting the last bit on without tools.

Re: Tire Irons?
Motion Pro sells a plastic rim protector. It slips over your rim and you do not gouge it up when you pry the tire on. Once you get good at it you can almost do away with these but htis is what we use at the shop. You do not ever want to scratch someones rims up. Also just be sure to tire down off the bead while you are putting the last few inches on. Squatting over the rim and holding it down with your knees works well. If you cant find the rim protectors PM me and I will give you our shop contact info. We can ship you a set.
Re: Tire Irons?
just make sure to push the bead in to the deep part of the rim and that will make it easier to get tha last little bit on and use some dish detergent on the bead also makes it go on easy and helps it bead up properly ...
and when your putting the last little bit of the tire on just do a little bit at a time don't try to get it all in one try
