chain tensioner

My chain link tensioner is bad, I have one on order but it won't be here till next week. When these start to wear out like mine is, does it just make noise or can it damage something in my engine. My question is can I ride this week or should I just put it away and stick to the FIFTY.

It depends on how bad it is, I had to put a manual tesioner in my 01 F4I because it keep spitting out the stock ones. Yes it can cause long term damage to your engine. Be very careful until you get your new one in.

yea I heard the f4i had problems. I have a 750, which has had its share amount of problems. I did buy one of those manuel tensioners, are they hard to install or is this a pie job.

I paid to have mine installed because the F4I is one of the hardest bikes to reach the tesioner ( IE take the tank off and the farring its wayyyyy back there LOL ) Just remember that after you get the manual tesioner put in ( however you decide to do it ) it needs to be addjusted every so often ( I do it every time I change my oil about every 3,000 miles )

If the cct breaks or just stops doing its job and you get too much slack in your cam chain, it will wear out the cam chain guides real quick. And if its loose enough, it can jump teeth on the cam gears and throw your timing off. If that happens, you will probably bend some valves. Personally, I dont mess with the hydraulic ccts. the manual ones are the way to go. They are real easy to install on the gixxers. You just have to make sure you remember to tighten them like darkmind said.
