I'm pretty sure it was someone's signature on here that said: "Never trade the thrill of living for the security of existence". Those are the words I live by. Although, personally I'd say you might want to get a smaller bike to start with. I mean, have you ever ridden a dirt bike? I know you have not ridden a street bike (you said so) but what all riding/driving expieriences (sp) do you have? Is this the first motorized vehicle you've EVER driven? Even an average 600 can be capable of close to 200 MPH, how responsible are you? Will you be able to hold yourself back, or will you ride for a day and then see how fast you can go? Second day of me ever riding a bike (knockoff fiddy) I had it full throttle (in my yard though) and I ate ****. Didn't hurt, and I don't regret doing it, but if that was even a 110cc dirtbike on cement I probably would've died. I could've even died on the 50 on grass. Would you get used to the bike, or assume you know everything? Have you considered a 250? I do realise that 250's are considered "gay" by most people, but if it is the option between life and death, I'd go with it. Or get a 250 - 450 cc dirtbike. Are you completely comfortable with all that power? Also consider a rev limiter. If you are utterly confident that you would be responsible and have the skills, then go for the big bike, but be sure.

My house is biased against bikes, so this evens it out and gives me a better understanding of my situation...

i gotta say though, that really is a dumb question. everything in life thats fun and extreme is dangerous. and you can die choking on a bowl of coco puffs or fall off a razor scooter and break your neck. so whats the point of the question ? when that day comes and i die my bike is where i want to be. i refuse to tiptoe through life only to arrive safely at death. riding is the only thing that satisfies me in this world and i wouldnt give it up for anything.

Re: Worth buying a bike or not?
If you want a bike, get one. If you take your time, pay attention, wear gear, and watch out for cars and other obstacles, you'll be okay. I have crashed alot. A few examples are: Got rearended doing a stoppie. By my filmer. He wanted to look at reactions of the people on the side of the road, instead of me. Also hit a deer at 75 on the highway with my girl on back. Broke both our collarbones, shattered her pelvis, broke both my ankles. Even she still supports riding. Its all luck. You can get hurt walking out your front door.

Not many parents want there children on bikes that they hear horror stories about. Just wear your gear, and always watch out for everybody. I use to be just as scared, i would think man one slip up and i could be in a wheelchair. Just remember everything happens for a reason, and i believe that if God has it planned for you its already planned so just ride. Before i bought my first bike i was like I won't ever do anything stupid by the end of the 3rd week of riding i was already trying to wheelie the thing. it's in my blood now. But like 99% of the people here love to ride. All i ever think abouts is girls and bikes. Once you ride that first time you will be hooked no matter what happens.

Re: Worth buying a bike or not?
when you ride make sure you ride the **** out of your bike so that when you go down you total your bike. if you dont total it... you get to pay to fix it and you dont get as much when you sell it. but if you total it, you get insurance money for what it was worth and you can take that money and get a new one
