905 makes an external mount one that doesn't require you to cut the tail(they hook up to your rear peg mounts) But I talked to Aaron and he said it's good for occasional 12's, but if you plan on slamming it on its ass all day, the internal would be a better choice.

Also, I'm thinking that people starting off would slam the bike back harder on the bar than experienced people who can lay it down a little more controled. Go internal.

Here's a pic of external:

I am running the internal 905 12 bar and there is no way to put the bar on and put the tail back in place without cutting it.

That external is a good idea, but doesn't look like it will have enough strength on the mount locations to withstand regular abuse.

ok i should clarify, i know i want internal and i know i have to cut the tail to get to the subframe BUT

i meant cutting like the back end of teh tail off, not the slots to mount it

i know you have to cut slots... im ok with that

i dint want to make the tail shorter is what i mean

It looks like if you welded a couple steel tabs that ran up from that long ass bar to the subframe and bolted it that would help. It just seems way too long to hold that much weight without breaking off the rear peg mounts or bending up and hitting the underside of the undertail.

I've seen a guy running around here with a 12 bar on his 954 and if I ever see him when I can chase him down I'm gonna find out what it is or if he made it.

I have a 929 with a 905 external bar. I bolts to the subframe from under the undertail. It's as sturdy as it can get.

Re: 954... 12 bar... need to cut tail?

I haven't cut my tailsection and put it back on yet so I can't say for sure but it looks to me that you should be able to keep the rear part of the tail intact and keep the light mounted inside the tail. It looks like the bar will block part of the light, but I think it will work.
Again, I haven't tried it yet, just lined it up to guestimate and it looks like you can get away with it.

You won't really need to cut the end of your tail off if you just want to park the bike. When you start learning coasters is when you might want to consider chopping the tail and shortening your bar. Your stock can will also have to be shortened.

yeah i have a spare muffler i just un-riveted yesterday actually. i cant see the point in buying a yosh pipe to just chop it in half... no way.

i think imma just go with a powers 954 bar. they are cheapest and i like teh way they look as far as width and sh!t.i'll leav eenuff room to just stick my foot in, im sure it will work out
