f4i main fuse blowing

my buddys 2001 f4i keeps blowing his main 20 amp fuse when he goes to take off after riding for a few mins, its alright if he keeps riding then when he goes to take off it will pop and blow and keep blowing them for awhile :shruggs anyways anyone have any clue why it would do this, he been working on it for what seems forever, found a broken wire in his kill switch he replaced and has done some other shit...can anyone point him in the right direction? :cheers

Re: f4i main fuse blowing

Not sure about the 2001, but the 2002 /2003 MAIN fuse is 30A. I'd check that first. Make sure it has the correct fuse.

The MAIN fuse gets it's power from the starter relay switch. I'd check all starter related components first. Check all power wires from the starter, battery, and the ignition switch. Make sure there are no bare insulation spots and all connections are good. Make sure the positive terminal of the battery is also free and clear and not hitting or shorting through any other wires.

I've seen 2002 f4i's blow the MAIN by not having the starter relay (the one next to the battery; follow the positive wire off the terminal and it goes straight to the relay) properly mounted. If the little rubber tabs that hold the relay are not secured to the plastics, the entire relay has the ability to slide forward and hit the subframe, shorting out the circuit.

Hope that gets you started.

I had that problem with my gsxr. Make shure you have no exposed wires any whare. All it takes only only one little exposed area.
