Brake fluid???

Anyone have any thoughts on using Dot 5 brake fluid in the front brake system??

i heard it eats up the seals :(

I was using Dot 5 brake fluid, and when I put the bike for the 7500mile service, the kwak dealers told me not to do it again as

1 - It can rot the seals

2 - Unless you completely clean out the old system you end up contaminating the fluid and that can cause probs while braking!

In the end they removed the fluid that I had just bought For £15

thanks....

Thanks for the info. I went from stock brake lines to braided which helped alot, and when I was in the store I spotted the dot 5 and was wondering if it was usable. ( I used the dot 4 and glad I did)

DOT 5 brake fluid is a full synthetic fluid and if your system is not made for it do not use it.

DOT5 is actually better fluid. It has a higher boiling point and works better...

...BUT, a) you only use it in systems designed for DOT5 and only use it from the very start, b) you have to change it a lot more often.

Use Valvoline Synpower DOT3/4. It costs like $3 for a 1 pint container, which is enough to do a complete flush on the front, especially with braided (smaller volume) lines.
